Technics Posted October 8, 2024 Author Posted October 8, 2024 BMF - My brain has a larger appetite then my physical skills but I tried my best. Gold plated fire wall detail with BMF that will be mostly hidden by the motor. Complex surfaces and small space to work with. 2
MarkJ Posted October 8, 2024 Posted October 8, 2024 MM, looks perfectly good to me. Worst thing about BMF is getting the tiny wrinkles in it. I do not see any in your work. That engine looks amazing. Can't wait to see some color on it. 1 1
Technics Posted October 15, 2024 Author Posted October 15, 2024 (edited) Dual Fuel tanks sprayed gloss black and fused into chassis. Misted Tamiya primer onto the two main body parts and began to close the hole / gap made visible between the wide fender flairs and main body with puddy. I will work on removing mold seams lightly as I’ve done the medicore hood pins / latches and try to avoid any fine scratch left. Edited October 15, 2024 by Technics 1

Fantastic looking 3D-printed engine here - I have the Fujimi Enthusiast series stratos with full engine detail, but this one is much more crisp and delicate: the carburettors, the spark plugs!!! 1
Technics Posted October 15, 2024 Author Posted October 15, 2024 @1959scudetto Thank you. Yes I have a unbuilt fujimi kit as well. I think this kit is more accurate on the exterior but lacks the motor. A 1:12 doyusha kit awaits for a future build one day, that thing is a monster! 1
Technics Posted October 17, 2024 Author Posted October 17, 2024 I went onto drilling 1.8mm wide holes for the strong but tiny 2x1mm N52 gaming magnets I decided I want to have holding the rear clamshell together. I placed them into the recently filled gaps that were created from the large rear fenders which I filled. It all worked out fine, I will need some help closing the gap along the roofline. It might get solved when I mount the hinge wire and permanently fix the clamshell hinges which will limit the movement. I never done any of these processes as removing bonnet pins, separating body panels, using magnets ( in this scale ) but always admired those that could / willed to. It is very exciting to do, 20 years later! 5
Technics Posted November 4, 2024 Author Posted November 4, 2024 The rear clamshell is now both functioning on a hinge and stays shut via magnets. 4
Pierre Rivard Posted November 4, 2024 Posted November 4, 2024 Excellent way to fabricate an operational clamshell. I love the Stratos and your upgrade with this and the whole transaxle will result in a formidable replica. 1
MarkJ Posted November 4, 2024 Posted November 4, 2024 I still don't understand the magnet thing but really like that the clamshell is operational. 1
Technics Posted November 4, 2024 Author Posted November 4, 2024 @MarkJ @Pierre Rivard @absmiami Thank you! I can’t take complete credit as the kit instructs you to hinge it, but still it is my very first hinge, clamshell and magnet use ?? I just felt it was neat if it was absolutely “locked” into place ? via magnet.
absmiami Posted November 4, 2024 Posted November 4, 2024 at the last GSL - one [of several] features that separated Scale Master's and Randy Derr's 12th scale builds fr the hundreds of other entries were their effective use of magnets to fix moving and removable parts of the body shell ... ... ... 1
MarkJ Posted November 4, 2024 Posted November 4, 2024 I have never heard of gaming magnets. Can someone post a close-up view of them and what is the original reason for their existence. I've had some hoods in the past that this might have been a fix for.
Brudda Posted November 4, 2024 Posted November 4, 2024 Fantastic job! One of the coolest cars on the planet.!! 1
Technics Posted November 5, 2024 Author Posted November 5, 2024 (edited) @MarkJ I used the smallest I could find, I believe they are used for table top gaming figures like warhammer and board games, dioramas etc. N52 being the strongest magnet rating, 2x1mm. https://www.greenstuffworld.com/en/neodymium-magnets-n52/2568-neodymium-magnets-2x1mm-100-units-n52.html @absmiami Love it! Thanks for sharing. @Brudda Thank you! Edited November 5, 2024 by Technics
Technics Posted November 6, 2024 Author Posted November 6, 2024 Most components are now fused onto the motor and it has been primed in Tamiya light grey. The motor needs to be final mounted into the frame to have more details and auxiliary items attached. I will begin painting on layers and doing details I can manage using some of the bottom photos as inspiration. 3
Ace-Garageguy Posted November 6, 2024 Posted November 6, 2024 Looking really good, fantastic ref pix too. Somehow I missed it earlier, but I have a few of these to get to, and REALLY appreciate your posting this. 1
Justin Porter Posted November 6, 2024 Posted November 6, 2024 This really is a fantastic project to follow. The transkit integrates so well into the kit, and the Hasegawa kit was already really nicely engineered. 1 1
Technics Posted November 14, 2024 Author Posted November 14, 2024 I decided I wanted the original box art livery. Maybe its too obvious but I went with the final gut feeling. Some alignment issues which I will sort. Tricky but rewarding decal process on its way. 3
MarkJ Posted November 14, 2024 Posted November 14, 2024 Looking good MM. I hope you're not going to try dealing with those vents in the hood. That would take a steady hand and no room for error. Might not be possible to deal with. 1
Pierre Rivard Posted November 14, 2024 Posted November 14, 2024 I love this livery but the decal over hood vents is what has always stopped me from trying. I would not know how to deal with that. 1
kensar Posted November 14, 2024 Posted November 14, 2024 If you're going to slice up the hood vent decal, use a new blade! Will still need some green touch up paint after the knife work. Good luck with it! 1
Technics Posted December 13, 2024 Author Posted December 13, 2024 Majority of decals on. Some brutal that put up a fight. Micro Sol, Set, and Tamiya decal glue make it possible though. Definitely a challenge I never knew I’d be able to tackle. I mixed up some touch up paint in green as it will be needed in areas. I later realised the kit refers to the exact green by Mr.Color so I picked some up. I would be happy to have the exterior sealed in matt clear this year. I will aim for that! 4
MarkJ Posted December 13, 2024 Posted December 13, 2024 Looks Awesome MM. Color match looks perfect. I know what a pain it is to mix up the right color to match a decal. 1
Ken Car-Fanatic Posted December 14, 2024 Posted December 14, 2024 Fantastic conversion on this & a beautiful build. I've always loved the Lancia Stratos, such a classic sports car, especially the Alitalia sponsored race versions. Great job. I will certainly follow this one to the end. 1
