I got it all cleaned up yesterday and was planning on shooting some primer today to see spots I missed that need attention but rain is on the way.
Zippi Posted August 16, 2024 Author Posted August 16, 2024 Well...the 55 is in a holding pattern as we have storms in the area until Monday. I got all the putty work re-done and the body did clean up pretty nice but we'll see once I get it back in primer on Monday. 5
TopherMcGinnis Posted August 16, 2024 Posted August 16, 2024 Looks like it's going to workout. I'm glad, I want to see how it looks beside the hill climber ?

bobthehobbyguy Posted August 18, 2024 Posted August 18, 2024 (edited) A couple of things. How long did you let the primer dry? Second if you can't fix the crazing I'd suggest doing a patina paint job. I've seen a few trucks done that way. I know that may not be what you want to do but it's better than buying another kit. Wow I'm impressed it looks like you managed to save the body. Nicely done. . Edited August 18, 2024 by bobthehobbyguy

slusher Posted August 19, 2024 Posted August 19, 2024 I give you props buddy your circling the airport for a landing! Going with the same paint? I would go with Tamiya or Mr hobby but that’s me brother!

Zippi Posted August 19, 2024 Author Posted August 19, 2024 Ok boys. I got-er back in primer. I think it turned out really well. It's got my juices flowing again on this build. If I can just get the Tamiya Acrylic black to lay down flat I'll be a happy camper. I'm going to let this primer set for at least 48 hrs. Don't want to take any chances this time around. 3
ksnow Posted August 19, 2024 Posted August 19, 2024 Excellent save on that body. Looking forward to seeing in that in shiny black.

I guess I had an extra rabbit in my hat. The humidity was not ideal at 63 percent but close enough. I had a small window and I took it. Edited August 19, 2024 by Zippi

BK9300 Posted August 19, 2024 Posted August 19, 2024 For all that was going on, you sure got the primer laying down smooth!

slusher Posted August 21, 2024 Posted August 21, 2024 Looking forward too see it painted. I hope the clear is not too hot..

I'll be shooting a couple test spoons in black as well. I'll hit the test spoon with the 2K clear. If it doesn't work out I'll use the Tamiya X-22 clear.
Zippi Posted August 21, 2024 Author Posted August 21, 2024 (edited) I'm throwing in the towel on this one fellows. It got the best of me. I got the same results as the first time. It was a new can of primer, totally different paint, perfect painting conditions and the exact same results. The body in primer looked as good as it gets. Here are the pics of the spoon test. I'm out of things to try so this one is history. Lot of time and money wasted on this one. Edited August 21, 2024 by Zippi 2
BK9300 Posted August 21, 2024 Posted August 21, 2024 (edited) What the heck are you supposed to do? Only thing common was the plastic, but it took the primer ok, twice. Anything else close by to your paint booth that may be off gassing and reacting with paint? Any chance moisture (somehow?) getting into air line? Edited August 21, 2024 by BK9300
