Until there's a return to common sense.

In the interim, you still can't fix stupid.

Besides that, there's a good chance that overly-complex vehicles will be the least of our worries.

When I was working at the Acura Dealer in the 1990's we used to have jokes about replacing the "Steering Wheel Actuator", but with self driving cars there probably really is a steering wheel actuator......?

The Older Techs I worked with on Antique Cars, groused about the "Loose Nut" behind the wheel.

It's common sense and the return of elegant design. Bloated designs result in a higher probability of failure. If I have two parts with 99 percent reliability a unit with two parts is 98 percent and 3 parts is 97 percent.
