Safire6 Posted August 19, 2024 Posted August 19, 2024 (edited) I was inspired by Volzfan59's build of this car. (Thanks Steve!) I built it as a gift to my wife who is an avid Tennessee Volunteers fan. I used the Monogram #85-2476 Jeff Gordon kit and the decals from 3 Amigos as Volzfan59 did. Seems to me that the 3 Amigos decals were a tiny bit too large for this Monogram kit as I had to trim down the checkerboard decals along the rocker panels to allow the other decals to fit. (Or maybe it was just me, not used to dealing with this many decals on a car!) And there was no way the "1998 National Champions" lettering on the hood decal would fit correctly without interfering with the hood pins, so I trimmed that part off. Anyway it was a bit of a challenge for me to do a NASCAR build with a rollcage that complex. I wished the orange decals on the hood and trunk better matched the actual Volunteers orange though. I used Tamiya TS-56 brilliant orange which I think pretty closely matches the Vols color. I just noticed that I still need to paint the gas cap! All comments welcome. Volzfan59 Posted August 19, 2024 Posted August 19, 2024 (edited) Heck yes, I love it! Really like it sitting beside the "smokey gray" helmet. Has she seen the new smokey gray uniform for this year? GO BIG ORANGE!!!!!! Edited August 19, 2024 by Volzfan59
ncbuckeye67 Posted August 20, 2024 Posted August 20, 2024 (edited) That looks amazing! I can't believe that's your first NASCAR build. Now I'm inspired to try my hand at one of the several in my stash. Edited August 20, 2024 by ncbuckeye67

I will mention it to her and I'm sure she'll google it! (I bought her the smokey gray helmet a few years ago from the campus Vols shop. It's my favorite helmet design.)

Yes, first one. Not much different than any other build in my opinion except for the many decals. On 8/20/2024 at 2:43 PM, shoopdog said: Very well done.
