mitchy Posted August 22, 2024 Posted August 22, 2024 Hello all I'm researching for a film, and we are recreating scenes, and some vehicles must be recreated in a bomb-damaged state. Rather than sourcing vehicles, we are reconstructing a few: A 1920s Rolls-Royce 20hp, the Ford 3-window seen here, and the dark car behind. Who can identify the car behind? It looks like a Ford Prefect, but seems larger. Thank you!
stitchdup Posted August 22, 2024 Posted August 22, 2024 it looks too wide to be a prefect but it could be a pilot
Bugatti Fan Posted August 23, 2024 Posted August 23, 2024 (edited) Les could be right about it being a Ford V8 Pilot. It looks like quite a big car. Other alternatives might be a Rover or a Humber saloon of the era as they were aimed at the slightly more affluent back then like doctors and bank managers. Re creations looks the best way to go Mitchy it you are looking to simulate bomb destroyed vehicles. Buying good functional period vehicles that people have restored to destroy them making a movie would be frowned upon by car enthusiasts these days. CGI has got so good now, there is no need to destroy real historic vehicles for movie making. I just think of all those lovely Mk2 Jaguare driven over cliffs or blown up on film sets back in the day! And I don't know if you are familiar with the early 70s police detective show Columbo, but the show's producer must have had a hate on for XKEs. If one shows up in an early scene, they will be chucking it off a cliff.
Bugatti Fan Posted August 23, 2024 Posted August 23, 2024 I can remember Columbo Trevor. Peter Falk played that character really well and can remember also that old beaten up Peugeot saloon that was his car in the series.
Phirewriter Posted August 24, 2024 Posted August 24, 2024 (edited) It's a 1935 Ford. Note the body and roof were carried over to 1936 but the chrome '33/'34 style of the top of the grill along with the hood vents give it away as a '35. Edited August 24, 2024 by Phirewriter
