On my 911 avatar, it's cut straight out of one of those ritzy magazines of luxury home photoshoots, where the dark wood was some guy's cherrywood bar. I forget what the light strips were, but from the same magazine, doubleside sticky taped to my wagon. Tape is still holding strong from 1988.

I use wood decals from Uschi van der Rosten. These decals are the best available wood decals that you can get.Very thin decals with an excellent wood graphic. To apply the decals paint the wood area in your preferred wood paint i.e.  Tamiya Desert Sand. You have to mark the wood area with tape and cut it ot. Plce the tape on the decal sheet and cut out the decal. Apply some decal solution on the model   and place the decal on he model. Let it dry. After that you can apply some oil pain i.e Burnt Sienna to get more depth to the wood lwt it dry for a few days. Then spray on a coat of clear on it and you are finished.

Here some models that I did with these decals

Hi Carl!

First, I spray Testor's Inca gold lacquer, then random blotches of Tamya's Desert tan & Buff  with the tip of a very short bristle worn brush. Wood planks joints are done with a .005 black graphic pen (Michael's). Clear of your liking. Works most of the time! See pics below.

Good luck.

The kit decals didn't fit correctly on this, so I used just paints. The lighter colored portions are done in a base coat of XF-Wooden Deck Tan with a light dry brush of XF-68 Nato Brown followed by a light coat of X-24 Clear Yellow. On the inset panels I used a base coat of XF-52 Flat Earth and again used the Nato Brown as a light dry brush to give the effect of wood grain. The final coat of X-26 Clear Orange gives a little darker finish in that area.
