G’day everyone, I’ve been on the forum for a little while now and I thought I’d have a go at a WIP. The weather is getting warmer here in Australia so I’m getting into the shed to start modelling again and I thought I’d build this one. The plan is a mild custom, lowered, nice paint and wheels. The kind of truck I’d like to drive in 1/1, (if l had the money!)IMG_2087.jpeg.335153ef8488c9cd85ba2e9323655555.jpegl thought this would be the colourIMG_2113.jpeg.4434c95cf4798ae3b80728c2de890d1d.jpegAnd I’d use these Pegasus wheels IMG_2157.jpeg.b8fdd1b82ebec6f7810eab1c135de2c0.jpegHopefully work and other commitments won’t get in the way too much and l can build this in a reasonable timeframe. Thanks for looking.
Cheers, Stuart.

Thanks Bob. Yes, just a mildly customised truck, and I’m interested to see how that metallic orange turns out.

IMG_2089.jpeg.610c5c867a9c9b26369d64d1e5c0b24d.jpegGot a start today. Because I’m going to sit it down low and with the width of my chosen wheels, I’m going to have to tub the tray. The necessary cuts seem to have gone well, just a little bit of clean up.IMG_2086.jpeg.863e10fed9bbb1b45790fb51425025c9.jpegI had some styrene sheet on hand so l had a bash at making the tubs. Only problem l had was the curved sections had to be heated over steam to make them more pliable, but l was still pushing the limits bending them around this much, but I’ve glued them together and trussed them up with tape and I’ll leave them overnight. Should be okay.

cheers, Stuart.??

Nice work on the tubs Stuart. I imagine the ‘65 was based on the same tooling as the ‘66 and I had trouble getting the floorpan to sit up tight to the firewall. Also the windshield doesn’t have nice locating points. Just a heads up.?

Cheers Greg, thanks for that. Will do a test fit before committing to glue. ??

In my opinion, this year of Chevy pickups are the best looking ever made and you've got a great looking one on your bench - nice work!

I’ve reworked the kit rear suspension to get it as low as possible without slicing into the chassis IMG_2169.jpeg.1c6ef6357f28e03c326891b89277282b.jpegDrilled into the front spindles and put some styrene rod into them to get it down at the front.IMG_2168.jpeg.d236d58f25dc23e87affe273233f7b36.jpegThis is the resulting stance. Should be good.IMG_2170.jpeg.eb128d579032fcfad52eab2cbfbc923a.jpeg

Thanks Brian, I’m a big fan of US pickups of this era.??

Oh Yeah. I dig these trucks. I've built a few. I named this one Pearly Gates.

G’day Topher, the suicide doors and forward opening hood on Pearly Gates are an interesting touch. ??

Nice wheels and great color, Stuart!

Thanks Carl, colours a little darker than I expected but I’m really happy with it.

Got the interior painted and finished. I scratch built a floor shift, curved for a bench seat.IMG_2164.thumb.jpeg.143c504310bfaede899ad86ce52bed0a.jpegl also added a custom steering wheel from the parts box. Colours are a combination of Tamiya ts-3 and as-22. IMG_2163.jpeg.6bd1747a965481dcbc268be7d61e52fe.jpeg

Using the engine in the kit, but I’ve dressed it up with a pancake style air cleaner and black valve covers to make it look less stock. Also, I thought I’d have a go at a pre wired distributor for this project, I’ve seen some nice wired engines on the forum and it does seem to make an engine bay stand out. Couldn’t find anything here locally, so I got a bunch of Protech ones from the US, ( you guys have all the cool aftermarket stuff! ) l found it reasonably easy to fit and I’m happy with the results, so I’m going to use them for future builds, especially on Hemi’s and Fords as the dizzy is rather prominent on those engines. Thanks for looking and any feedback welcome. ??IMG_2174.jpeg.b57ea0f5dd38c67e47df080770c845cb.jpeg

Like how you ran your plug wires. They may be hard to see in the finished engine room, but the OEM style of running the plug wires looks better than laying them cross the exhaust manifolds.

Thanks David. I guess it stems from my earlier modelling in military aviation, where I’d thoroughly research the subject for as much accuracy as possible.  I looked at a lot of images of small block Chevy engines to make sure it looks realistic on my truck.

With big wheels, you’ve got to put something behind them in regards to brakes. I fully intended to scratch build some rotors and calipers from kit wheel backs but stumbled across these Pegasus ready to go items on a recent internet search, so unfortunately laziness took over and here they are painted and glued in place.IMG_2182.jpeg.d7b2b1adcb0fc3ab6560f83c08a74815.jpegIMG_2183.jpeg.227ad51baab2357662038a8d6355ee4c.jpeg

Those rotors and calipers are looking pretty good there Stuart.  This build is looking pretty good.

Thanks Bob, I’ve got most everything painted, it’s just assembling it all. Also wrestling with the idea of drilling a tiny hole into the cab and putting a piece of thin wire to represent a radio antenna.
