Starting a new build the AMT capr2, for those who don't know much about this kit I took a picture of the box top. I am going to start with the engine it is a v6, I am trying to machine it from scratch ( we will see how that works out) the second pic shows the scrap piece of aluminum in the mill yes I started with a round piece, I always keep off cuts for later use. The engine block is about 85% done all comments welcome.

Thanks Ulf, Thanks John it will be interesting to see if I can pull it off and make it look at least half decent lol.

This is going to be interesting ??. I owned a Capri about 30years ago. Previous owner had put a V8 in it.

That is a rare kit - I thought it included an engine?  Or is it not a very good one? Either way, I like the work done on milling the new block.

Thanks for your comment Sonny, you are correct the kit included an engine just not a very good one, I should have put it in the pictures also. I also wanted to see if I could produce a decent scratch built engine but not a direct copy of the original v6. Wish me luck I will need it.

I'm following this one also, I got a first gen Capri kit that was started from another member on the forum.  I too had a 1970 Capri (1600) that was a blast to drive, had a lot of fun on the streets of El Paso and at the local strip.

Did the Mercury Capri share the same basic body shell as the UK Ford Capris ?

Looking at the AMT box art posted the shape looks very similar.

Yes. Kinda. This model is based on a Mk2 Capri. I think the Mercury Capri was based on the Mk1 Capri.  Later Mercury Capri‘s were based on, I think, an 80s Mustang, and the last Murcury Capri was related to a Mazda!

A very very small update, this is a picture of the timing cover in progress on the mill for the front of the engine, I think this will work pretty well and it is only about 50% done I need a different size milling bit to finish it which I do not have, I have ordered the correct size from eBay should be here around Thursday. To be honest this is the third attempt at this part I messed up the other 2, lol. All comments welcome.
