Bugatti Fan Posted September 28, 2024 Posted September 28, 2024 (edited) Over here in the UK we have experienced a month's worth of rain over a couple of days with the inevitability of roads being flooded. A stationary empty car parked up getting overwhelmed by flood water is one thing. But It never ceases to amaze me the number of drivers who try to use their cars as it they were driving a Land Rover fitted with a snorkel. End result by not turning back, car stuck and ruined by water ingress and driver placing themselves and passengers in danger. Edited September 28, 2024 by Bugatti Fan
1930fordpickup Posted September 28, 2024 Posted September 28, 2024 This when positive thinking gets the better of you.
johnyrotten Posted September 28, 2024 Posted September 28, 2024 I believe George Carlin had a bit about "Average intelligence ". Seeing people attempt things like this falls in line with what he said. Not to mention the fact of placing rescue personnel in the situation when the worst does happen. There's been some flooding over here due to the recent hurricane, I haven't yet seen any stories from it, I'm sure they exist. Luckily I'm a few hundred miles away in Ny 1

Unfortunately, this happens around here as well at times. The local news channels always flash a message on the TV at those time to remind everyone to "Turn around, don't drawn". Still there is always the video footage on the 10 pm news showing rescuers and helicopters trying to save someone who also thought their car was a motorboat. Seems to be a recessive gene thing but the gene pool is slowly getting shallower with each storm.
thatz4u Posted September 28, 2024 Posted September 28, 2024 in the USA we have a backup group of First Responders.... 1
Deathgoblin Posted September 29, 2024 Posted September 29, 2024 We here in Ohio just got hit with the remains of a hurricane. My brother sent me video of the street in front of his house, and how he now has riverfront property. They had a huge amount of flooding.
Ace-Garageguy Posted September 29, 2024 Posted September 29, 2024 Arizona, along with several states with deserts, is subject to flash-flooding in some areas when rain in high country accumulates rapidly in gullies and washes, which can inundate short sections of roadway with little warning. The flooding can be deep, fast-moving, and powerful enough to knock over something as large and heavy as a bus, or carry it away in the stream. Traditionally, desert dwellers were familiar with the danger of trying to cross flooded areas. Unfortunately, not all humans have the common sense of a coyote. So in 1995, Az. passed a "stupid motorist law" that holds drivers financially responsible for the cost of their own rescue if they drive into a flooded area. 1
Chuckyg1 Posted September 29, 2024 Posted September 29, 2024 In the boroughs of NYC water in the streets deter no one.... and they move at speed. The saying is turn around don't drown, to no avail. 1
