TopherMcGinnis Posted October 6, 2024 Posted October 6, 2024 I have been tasked by a Friend to build a kit strictly out of the box. No aftermarket parts, and no kit bashing or robbing of parts from other kits. Ill crack this girl open this coming week. Anyone in the Chesapeake Bay area? 2
TopherMcGinnis Posted October 8, 2024 Author Posted October 8, 2024 We're in Chesapeake for a couple of days. I like to build while we're on trips(I'm away from my work bench and need something to do). I sat down and spent some time with this kit last night. Not super detailed, but I think if I get my paint right, it'll look good on the shelf ? 6
Mopar - D Posted October 8, 2024 Posted October 8, 2024 Looking forward to seeing how your on the road build comes together. 1 1
gtx6970 Posted October 10, 2024 Posted October 10, 2024 I have a couple of these to do someday. No rush as I have a couple original issues built from years ago So looking forward to how this turns out 2
TopherMcGinnis Posted October 10, 2024 Author Posted October 10, 2024 I restore wiper motors for a living(www.headlightmotorman.com), and as I was perusing the Big Rig section, I remarked that some guys are SERIOUSLY talented with their detail work. Running lines, harnesses, putting the tubes on the condenser, and even putting studs on to put nuts on to hold cables! My wife said "Why don't you make a wiper motor for the one you're building?" I said that most of the cars have them molded to the firewall. So I pulled this out to look, and it's nowhere CLOSE to resembling a correct B Body firewall! What to do? What to do? Most of you guys are SERIOUSLY talented! 1
1972coronet Posted October 10, 2024 Posted October 10, 2024 Study @StevenGuthmiller's outrageously detailed 1968 Coronet R/T Hardtop build. 4
StevenGuthmiller Posted October 10, 2024 Posted October 10, 2024 I used many of the parts from the Revell 1968 Dodge Charger kit, including the firewall. I dressed it up a little. Steve 5

Since you're not allowed to do any kit bashing, I think you're stuck with it. It looks almost exactly like the old Johan B-body firewall. I wonder if the kit is based on a Johan mold. Anyways, if you remove the OOB stipulation, I would use a Revell firewall like Steve suggested. 4

TopherMcGinnis Posted October 13, 2024 Author Posted October 13, 2024 Paint Shack Saturday Night! I must say, MCW paints are AWE SOME! The colors are Spot On. Here's the Coronet in her Turquoise dress. I used Alclad Klear. I really like lacquer paints. I'll let it sit a bit then see how much buffing needs done. 8

Opening a jar of laquer in the house would get me permanently banished to the garage by you know who.
slusher Posted October 13, 2024 Posted October 13, 2024 Nice color choice, looks like a really smooth finish also.. 1
Moparman18064 Posted October 13, 2024 Posted October 13, 2024 Looks great. I agree, MCW paints are awesome. 1
