This rearend shows to a 1983 Mercury Capri RS Crimson Cat. The Mercury Capri was based on the fox bodied Mustang and only sold as a hatchback model.  Main difference to the Ford Mustang where the flared fenders and a different front facias. For 1983, the Capri received a redesign of the rear hatchback, distinguished with a large compound-curve "bubble-back" rear window. Along with that revision came newly styled tail lights, rear bumper cover and front end grille. The car in the picture shows the one-year only Crimson Cat package. The Gold striping, TRX wheels and bright crimson red (code 27) paint, with black sport performance seating and red inserts gave this Capri a distinctive appearance.

I got a lot of correct answers and a few refers to the Crimson Cat . Therefore I split the result into Gold and Silver award

Gold - 1983 Mercury Capri RS Crimson Rat:

  • Fabrux
  • otherunicorn
  • thatz4u
  • DonW

Silver - 1983 Mercury Capri RS

  • TarheelRick
  • Bucky
  • Meriva
  • Bainford

Congratulations to all of you, well done.

Michael, the wheels on that particular car are from a later year Thunderbird. They are not the TRX wheels it came with.

Probably changed because the TRX wheels were a metric size ,usually hard to come by in some places.

I thought so! Didn't look like TRX wheels to me. But the gold stripes were the giveaway. ?
