Controversially, I’ve always had an affinity for these old AMT NASCAR kits. Not as good as the Revell/Monogram kits, but I actually think these Pontiac bodies are closer to the real car than the Monogram kits were. Completely box stock other than a seatbelt decal. Even used the kit tire decals. These old AMT decals hold up well, you just have to work slowly and be patient with them.

Hood Pin decals! Haha those and the seatbelt decals. Only non-box parts.

I always thought the AMT body was a lot better looking, but 99% of the aftermarket decals and parts were geared towards the Monogram line. The main thing that bugged me with the AMT stuff was not firewall detail (master cylinder, overflow tank) and the exaggerated beading.

You did an excellent job on this one. Did you double up the decals?

Awesome build! Very nice. Glad to hear the old AMT decals still work. I agree with you - AMT definitely got the lines of the 1:1 Grand Prix closer than Monogram. (I think they did with the Lumina and '03-'05 Monte Carlos too, IMO.)

Nope! Just the set of the box decals. You had to be careful with them, but they held up well.

And, I agree. The chassis and other components leave a lot to be desired, but the bodies look great in my opinion.

I need to build a Kyle Petty car or buy an exceptional diecast. I've got several of the Kyle Petty AMT cars and just haven't considered them. I'll need to change that. Nice build showing the possibilities of this kit.

Thats a great looking model you have. I was delivering tires to the track in New Hampshire and saw Kyle on track testing, that car glowed in those colors. How did you do the black inside the widows?

That’s cool! One of the best looking cars to ever race.

The windows are just tape and good old black paint. Coating them in future seals up the paint well.

I have a built monogram kit from years ago as well, but these AMT kits aren’t too shabby!

Great work Benny!  Very crisp building style, keep up the good work.  I agree about the AMT bodies looking great, though the Thunderbirds left a lot to be desired.

Very nice build.
When I built AMT's Thunderbird in the past, I was not happy with the body style, but the body style of this Grand Prix is very nice.
