This is the Airfix 1/48 scale Bf109E-4 flown by Franz Von Werra who crash landed in a field in Kent after being damaged by Spitfires on September 5th 1940. In 1941 von Werra became the only German POW to escape back to Germany and continue fighting.

All paint is Tamiya spray cans except for the nose which I left in the molded plastic color.

Shortly after taking these picks I dropped it bringing it back inside, breaking off all the landing gear and tail wheel, prop and canopy. Kind of resembled the box art. Time for the super duper glue.

That is a really nice Bf109 Airfix put out. How was the kit for assembly and such ? It looks like Airfix has really been upping their game

You did a fantastic job on this , sorry to hear about your mishap.

I had built an old Monogram one many years back and before I could take a pic of it for my forum buddies I had lost it - so I thought. My daughters big fat cat was sitting on it - the landing gear did not hold up to fat cat either.

Thanks Sean! It was actually a very well fitting kit and I wouldn’t hesitate to pick up another. The only thing I didn’t care for was the prop attachment. Needless to say this is the only  plane I’ve built that doesn’t have a spinning propeller.

Man......you have got NO kick coming after that build Keith as this turned out to be one heckuva finish.  I have a love for WWII warbirds across the board but I have a strong interest in Bf109's and Fw190's so I light up every time I see these two subjects in a title line. Really sorry to hear about the accident with the finished build but am sure you'll put 'er back together in good fashion.
