I was pulling one of my 41 Willy's Gasser's down off the shelf just to check something and yup....I dropped it.  The display case shattered and the poor old Willy's ended up in a lot of pieces.  I decided I was going to strip the paint and do a make-over but disaster struck.  Long story short the body was no longer usable.  I good friend of mine (Terry) said he had a spare body.  When I opened the box I found that Terry had not only sent me one body but three and a bottle of Scale Finishes paint.  What a surprise.  So...I currently have a thread going on with the 41 Willy's Pickup and I'm going to go ahead and start the re-build of this '41 Gasser.  Just love this body style.

The weather in the garage was right this morning so I got some primer on a couple 41 Willy's bodies.

Opps...posted the wrong 41 Willy's pics.  Correct ones coming shortly.

Update: Ok fellows, here are the pic I was supposed to post.  That's the problem I have when I'm working on to many builds at one time.  Once this cures out for about 3+ days I'll hit it with the 2K clear.

Bob, this is off topic, but I noticed your pale green Chevy pickup in the background. What brand of paint and color name is that, please😃?

That paint is the Tamiya XF-21 Sky Acrylic.

watching....

👍 I need to get some clear thrown on this body but the weather was bad, I came down with a Bad cold, holidays came and went, and here we're again with a snow and ice storm fast approaching.

Man, it has been a while but I finally got a fairly decent day to get out in the garage and throw some 2K Clear on the 41 Willy's.  The garage was up to 58° with 42% humidity so not to bad but I'm not pleased with how the Clear laid down.  I'm going to let it cure out as it should get better as it cures.

The 2K Clear is dry enough today to lightly handle so I did a little mock-up to make sure Everything still fits.  Here are the decals that will be going on.

Got the decals on.  I could not get the Swindler A decals that went on the rear fenders to lay down without a wrinkle due to the radius of the fender in two directions so I went with something else.  I'd rather it look good vs it looking right.  I'm not looking to memic the the original, just looking for something kewl looking

And yep, it is  cool looking👍

Thanks Mike.  Taking another look at the pics I'm not liking how I can see the clear area around the decals.  I'm going to pick up some of the Tamiya decal set and see if it will help.

Problem has been solved.  I was setting here in front of my computer this morning looking at the body and just didn't like what I saw so I pulled out a toothpick and picked off the decals.  Not sure what I have to replace them so we'll see.

Do you think a coat of clear over your decals might have made the decal background be less visible or disappear?  Have any decals left over you could experiment with on a spare piece of painted plastic?

It’s odd that the decals silvered like that on gloss paint. Usually that happens with flat or matte finish. Clear coat under decals helps, but over won’t. IMHO

Were the decals after market?

I don't think if I shot a coat of 2K clear over the decals it would have helped.  I think the issue was on the under side.  Once the weather warms up I'm going to be doing some testing with 2K clear over decals which I've never done.
