Ordered the kit and hood yesterday.  Scott Burton’s car will be used as a guide.  Not a replica of his, however.  I am thinking candyapple red for the color.  Unsure of wheels.

Cool project Ron, will you use the Monogram 1/24 kit or a resin kit (3D printed body) for your project?   By the way, Candy Apple Red is a great color choice!

I will use the Revell kit and an aftermarket hood with the dual formula type scoops.

Well, Christmas came a couple of days late.  Got the kit and missing link hood today.  I assume this hood is for a 1/25 kit as it is considerably narrower and shorter.  SMH also sells a resin hood, but I don’t know the size of it.  Undecided now whether to modify it or try the Southern Motorsports Hobby hood.  Anyone have any suggestions?

I'd suggest getting a message to Southern Motorsports Hobby and asking them if their hood is meant for the 1/24 Monogram kit or the original 1/25 MPC kits.

If their hood is the same I'd not bother buying one.  I'd just cut the scoop section from the hood you have and graft it into the Monogram kit hood.

If I were doing that hood swap, I'd simply add stock to both sides, and front and back.

Smoothing the resulting seams would be far easier than trying to accurately cut-and-paste the scoop section into the original hood.

Done carefully, nobody would ever see anything was wrong unless they went at it with calipers.

Either way, your scoops will be 1/25 scale, and a 1/25 scale distance apart, so why make your life any more difficult than it has to be?

I'd usually go that way too, Bill but I don't think the contours at the front of the smaller hood will match up with the contours of the larger nose. That's why I recommended the graft.

Thank you, gentlemen.  Both are viable options.  I am going to check tomorrow with Greg Wann on his Facebook group.  As of a year ago, he supplied the correct hood and scoops in 1/24 scale.  Thanks again.  I do appreciate your replies.

Got the seam lines on the oil and trans pans mostly removed, then removed the exhaust from the rear end with the help of my great nippers and those outstanding mig sanding sticks.    Glued the rear end halves together with the thicker Modelmaster glue to help fill some gaps.  Will be a sad day when I run out of that stuff, as it is no longer available.

Removed the power steering pump and belt.  Anybody know why the holes in the rear wheel wells?  Deepened the front and rear windshield grooves.  Will deepen the door panel lines tomorrow.

Started modifying the front fender.  Cut the fuel pump off.  This is what the Formula should look like.  Then, rounded up some of the aftermarket items used on this build.  Cut the rear housing off the original rear end to use the aftermarket one that came with the Caltracs.  Working on the Caltracs.  Every time I use that double bladed saw, I am so glad I have it.  Made cutting off the carb (1/2 at a time) a breeze.

Following this one. Ron, where did you order the leaf springs with the Caltracs?

Got those on Shapeways last April before the bankruptcy.  Glad I got 6 more then, as I don’t see them available now.  Lesson learned:  if you find something that works for you, don’t hesitate to stock up.

That’s so true Ron, so many aftermarket parts are short lived. Get them while you can!

Couldn’t resist this front end shot.  Is that a mean looking front end or what?  Worked on making the multileaf springs look more like Caltracs split monos.  Careful trimming with my irreplaceable nippers, sanding with my 1:1 porting/sanding flaps, then ammo by mig 120 grit sanding stick.

Just got these a few minutes ago.  I hope they will help me keep inventory and keep track of what works and what doesn’t.  The master builder book (8x10) appears to be the most useful book to me, but the Modeller’s Logbook is smaller (5x7) and, perhaps, more workbench friendly.

More small things done.  Decided to leave the fender flares on and bent the one I had started to remove back in position.  Put some modelmasters glue on to fill the gap.  Glued the front and rear sections on.  Also, the rear spoiler.  Got some small parts ready for paint.  Waiting on the dual scooped hood, but, getting antsy, and may go ahead and paint the body with the single scooped stock kit hood.

Just a response to your question about the Southern Motorsport hood, I’ve got one and it’s 1/25 scale, I’d be interested in a 1/24 for another project. Any information if you’re able to find one would be greatly appreciated!

I am still waiting on Greg for the hood.  When I get it, I will definitely post it on this thread.

Stalled for a bit.  Got the suspension ready for paint.  Put some masking tape on for better wheel fit.   Decided to modify the aftermarket hood .
