Falcon Ranchero Posted February 24 Posted February 24 Took out a bunch of kits last night just to see what I got and I must say there are quite a few from my early years of building that I am not terribly pleased with and may end up re-doing a few from the ground-up. That being said, the recent completion of three of my builds which I really enjoyed building and having put together got me thinking about the kits I built that I thought turned out well. So I compiled 7 from a span of 2023-now that were my favourites. What are some kits you have built that you really enjoyed building and came out nice? Share the photos here. 4
Hard_2_Handle_454 Posted February 24 Posted February 24 I know it's quite a lot, but I think these were some of the better kits. They were easily put together and came out great. These were a pleasure to build and you can also see my skills improving with time. This also puts some kits out there that haven't been seen for awhile. People can enjoy them, get some ideas for some builds, or just know that these kits exist. Question for you about the '56 Del Ray kit there, I built one but it fought me every step of the way; did you have a hard time building yours or did it go smoothly? 1

Question for you about the '56 Del Ray kit there, I built one but it fought me every step of the way; did you have a hard time building yours or did it go smoothly? I've got two. They both went together pretty well. I don't remember any trouble with either kit. One was from the early 2000's run with the custom wheels. I did the other paint scheme. This blue one is from the newest release a couple years ago. I found it to be a great kit. I went together pretty nice, with no problems from what I remember. I picked most of these kits because they came out great and I had few problems building them. I think the ones that were the most trouble were probably the foreign kits. They can be a little challenging and require some tools/paint most US kits don't. It was pretty hard not to post more builds. I have quite the collection numbering into the hundreds now. Looking at my album it's hard to believe I started it almost 10rs ago, and I had more kits built before that going back another 12yrs just in cars! 2

My Del Ray is the newest release also, I found that the white wall inserts didn’t fit around the rims. And actuality now that I remember other than that it was going pretty well until I had to put the main components of the car together, at that point it wasn’t going well. I see yours came out very nice, just like the stock one on the box, it looks way better than mine. I built it in 2021 and it looked pretty good when I was done but unfortunately since that was the year I started building I hadn’t yet known to scrape chrome plating off so everything chrome has basically fallen off and the wheels kept falling off too. Probably inexperience was the reason why I had a hard time with it so maybe if I redo it it might be easier to build this time around. 1
Mothersworry Posted February 24 Posted February 24 (edited) I'm particularly fond of Ed Roths cars by Revell...I really enjoy the intricacy of these kits. The Outlaw.Tweedy Pie.Surfite and Tiki Hut and BDR hisself. The Road Agent. The Beatnik Bandit II with BDR and his pal.The Mysterion...I built this in 86 or so.Ed pinstriped his name on the display case fer me at the Detroit Autorama in 1991. OldSkool81 Posted February 25 Posted February 25 Here are some of my favorites that are sitll on the shelves. All completed in my late teen years, the latest being the DTM Opel which I completed at around 20 years old before life got in the way, and forced me in a 20+ years model building break. We moved a lot when I was young, so I've got many more favorites, but they got damaged and are in boxes somewhere awaiting restoration, one one them being Revell's 1/16 "Swamp Monster" Chevy Monster truck (sorry for the lack of picture, since I don't know in which one of my boxes it's resting), and I always wanted to buy its companion kit, the "Giant Tracks" yellow version with the bedcap, but kept my money instead to pay for my driving lessons...😓 4

Probably inexperience was the reason why I had a hard time with it so maybe if I redo it it might be easier to build this time around. I think I had to play with the white wall inserts a bit (the other kit doesn't have them). I want to say they snapped in. Normally if I have trouble with tires and rims; I set it in a bit. Then, I get a knife and and try to go around the tire and rim (kind of how the machine does it when you get tires). And, I'll also set it on the table and push hard on the tire as well. I've had to do that on a couple recent models, but I don't remember which ones. What you're talking about with the plated pieces could be part of the problem too. Right now I don't have a hobby knife (and probably won't use one as my dad once cut himself bad with one wood working) so I use the scissors on a muti-tool to trim the parts. It works OK for the most part. I get resourceful from time to time. I even fabricate parts if need be. 2
Bills72sj Posted February 25 Posted February 25 My favorites are kits that do not fight you on assembly. I tend to deflash and go right to paint. Test fitting is some I will do if I am warned. Sometimes I get away without doing so and some times I don't. My skillset has been greatly improved since joining this forum. (Looking at you Steve). Here are some that I am proudest of: 7

Musclecarbuilder Posted February 25 Posted February 25 One of the most fun kits I've ever built was this 88' mustang GT convertible, I wanted to make it a factory stock car but I ruined the white paint job. So out came the rust paints and powders. Sorry the pics kinda suck: 4

Horrorshow Posted February 26 Posted February 26 My favorite kit is this early 2000’s Revell NASCAR. Fit was perfect. The chassis screwed into the body. The windshield came with the black trim and slipped right in. It was a Bill Elliot kit but a turned it into a Jimmy Spencer #7. These kits seem very rare and are quite pricey, but I highly recommend it for any NASCAR fan. 3

If i may, what paint/primer did you use? Thank you. I built this 20+ years ago, lol. If I recall correctly, it was Rustoleum grey sandable primer and what was then called Rustoleum sun yellow. It was almost dead nuts on to the Saturn yellow. Not sure if they still make that specific color. Hope that helps.😊 2
Chuckyg1 Posted February 26 Posted February 26 No, thank you. When we toured the house we eventually bought, the seller had this in the garage and I fell in live with it. Unfortunately, it wasn't included in the sale. Hopefully I can track down that paint or something simular. Thanks again. 2
