fun9c1 Posted March 9 Posted March 9 This was part of a 20 pc lot of "junkyard" cars that showed up the other day. Going through them seeing what I have and just enjoying checking them out. Most of them I recognize as they are from the '80s on up, and I started buying and building models in the mid-late '70s (born in '69), but I'm sure I have nowhere near the knowledge as alot of others here. Two or three of these I don't recognize, and this is one of them. It's a "screw bottom" which to me means older than '80s, but I could be wrong. Also the lack of quality of the "chrome" suggests older also. My gut feeling is that there was no part swapping here, seems like a "box stock" build, but of course once again I could be wrong. I did search some to see if I could find it, but I'm sure there are plenty of people here that know instantly what this is! TIA. Looks like it was painted with a brush in a sandstorm LOL!
Can-Con Posted March 9 Posted March 9 That ,I do believe is an original AMT '66 Mustang annual hardtop/convertible. https://public.fotki.com/drasticplasticsmcc/mkiba-build-under-c/amt-instructions/automotive-cars--pi/ford/1961-1970/amt-1966-mustang-co/ 4
Beans Posted March 10 Posted March 10 Pretty sure you have your answer, just wanted to say that I am really liking the red exhaust. Gonna have to start painting my exhaust red. 😁 1

NOBLNG Posted March 10 Posted March 10 Likely built by a kid that surmised exhaust is hot so it should be red. 1 1
Carmak Posted March 11 Posted March 11 Cool old kit, nice find! I have a couple rebuilders, one has the top glued down hard (you're top also looks glued down hard). Big pieces like the hood and grille from all of the AMT 66 Mustang kits will work with the one you have.

And ANYTHING glued in the '60s can be considered to be glued down hard, right? LOL Back then the glue was stronger than the plastic! Now you breathe on it too hard and it comes apart...

LOL Back then the glue was stronger than the plastic! Now you breathe on it too hard and it comes apart... 'Glue' and 'breathe' has me flashing back to the early '70s when I was a kid building WW2 airplanes. I discovered to my bemusement around my elementary school that some neighborhood kids were "breathing" model glue out of paper bags (!?!). I got to a point that I couldn't purchase model glue at my local drug store without a parent...
mcs1056 Posted March 14 Posted March 14 I have seen similar works at garage and estate sales. I always passed on them. However, I'm now inclined to start picking up some, as they remind me of my book shelf in the 60's & 70's. It was full of unpainted warships, joints with big gaps, brushed-on Testors paint, and model glue fingerprinted windshields.
Bill Anderson Posted April 1 Posted April 1 Good Grief, a "dual quad" Mustang with single exhaust.....
