SO I stripped the chrome off a set of Pegasus wheels and was quite surprised with what I saw...

All from the same package...3 white and 1 rust-colored. Anyone else ever experience anything like this?

Maybe it's like "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory", but with a "Rust Wheel" instead of a "Golden Ticket"... :D

I've run into this on a couple of kits on the chrome trees where half of it will be an opaqued plastic and the other part will be a colored plastic. I think it's just whatever they have in the machine at the time they're doing the injections since it doesn't really matter since it's going to have chrome plating over the top.

Nah....The truth be told...the red one is a limited special edition non numbered collectors wheel ;)

I experienced the same thing with Pegasus. Only two of the wheels were a green color, almost like Arctic Cat green. It was on the Torque Thrust wheels

I'd go with the Whatever is in the machine theory. Like they said above its going to be plated anyway why waste time or money trying to get the exact color for everything. Could been sets from 2 different runs unless they were on a tree together

except, it lost all it's value when you stripped the chrome....

Opaque can be colored plastic. Opaque means cannot be seen through. I've seen transparent ones on old Lindberg 1/32nd scale cars.

The plastic that goes in the molding machines is in the form of pellets. Some are colored some are white/clear.

When a run of a special color is done there are left over pellets in the hoppers so they get used or thrown away.

I've seen Johan chrome parts that were swirly colors. Makes sense to use the stuff you've got.

Revell Chrome was often transparent. I bet those are the least expensive 'fillers'

I've never had the chromed parts come out different colors when stripped. I built a Lindberg '40 Ford a while back, and when I stripped the chrome- the sprue was clear! So now I have some transparent '40 Ford parts floating around. Well, somewhat transparent.

That's interesting. I wonder who makes their parts and what else they make that's not model car stuff maybe? Makes sense I guess because the wheels aren't on a tree when they're packaged.
