gcthree Posted April 23 Posted April 23 I've been car obsessed for as long as memories serve me and modeling was everything to me in my youth. But then the actual cars stepped into the picture and modeling took a back seat. My Father had built me a workshop bench in the basement where hours were spent building. I was a rabid IMC fan as their kits took details to the next level over AMT and MPC. JoHan ran a close second in details and accuracy. But when I left home for married life, my Mother (as I knew she would do....) dispensed with my collection. Over the past 10 years, I've been sniffing around on eBay to find the kits I once had and when priced right, I've put them in a closet for the time when I would return to modeling. That time is now! I've just purchased a 2004 C5 Corvette ZO6 LeMans Commemorative Edition, and was able to find a Revell 1/24th kit as well as a Corvette C5R 1/24th kit and these kits are launching me back into the hobby as I replicate both the car in the garage as well as the race car that inspired the street version. It's great to be back and this forum has immediately paid huge dividends as Jim R directed me to a person in Australia that provides the decal sheet that I need for the 2003 C5R LeMans paint scheme. Rich Chernosky Posted April 23 Posted April 23 Bob...you and I have a similar beginning. Those IMC kits were my inspiration to get into the hobby also. However, we differ in the fact that I never quit and now , 61yrs later I am still at it. Yes, I still have those kits and have even re-visited a couple. They still can make a decent model. You will be on a steep learning curve but will enjoy every minute of it. Welcome to the forum, there is plenty of company here.

IMC kits were not readily available in my area when growing up, but I loved the 60s Revell kits and their 70s dragsters and funny cars over AMT and MPC for the same reasons. I think new members have to make 25 posts before they are no longer reviewed. Start visiting various parts of the forum and making comments, and you will cover 25 posts pretty quickly. Cheers. 1

It was called Big Daddy Livingstone's. My best friend lived a few blocks from it and we were there all the time. We also had EJ Korvettes department store that was also a great place for kits. Later on, my friend and I drove out to Scranton, Pa. to visit Oscar Koveleski's Auto World operation. I later got to meet and know Oscar via my days at Road & Track magazine as he would attend the Madison Avenue Sports Car Driving and Chowder Society lunches at Sardi's in Manhattan. What a character!
