karbuildr Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 I'm not sure this is the correct forum to ask, but why is this message board so slow? I'm using a fiber optic connection with 12mps download and 6mps upload, yet it can take a full minute or longer to open one post for viewing. I'm not complaining, just wondering why the board takes so long to open a post for viewing. I was excited when I first joined the board as a welcome relief from the other model car message boards that seem to be populated by immature people, but I don't post nearly as much as I had hoped to because it seems to take so long to accomplish anything. I've checked all my settings, and can find no issues on my end, not to mention this seems to be the only website where this slow response/performance occurs. Maybe someone can enlighten me as to how to speed things up.
RodBurNeR Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 It's a tad slow for me too. It doesn't take as long as yours though. What is your processor speed? How much ram do you have? Those will make a difference too. Have you made sure your windows are updated? www.windowsupdate.com Do you do disc cleanup periodically? Sometimes cleaning up history and cookies will help things, since over time bugs get in there which will make it slower. Try those things out and see if it helps.
george 53 Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 Mine too. But then again, I DID just get a new computer for my Birthday! Try like Bob mentioned,an run a De-Fragmenting program, It helped my old one to speed up. Just a suggestion.

Foxer Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 all works great from my end. Occasionally a slight delay,. maybe when many looking or my typical DSL delays, but no where near the times you mention.

Mac G5, dual 2.3ghz, 8GB Ram, 2 1.5 terabyte eSATA hard drives, 3 external HDs, 2 24" monitors It's okay, I guess..... One thing can try is unplug your modem/router for 10 seconds or so, then plug back in.

I would like to upgrade to 8gigs ram and larger processor.. A lot of people get irritated about slow computing...but most of them have really old computers needing work. MAC? .... I am on a PC that I built.
roadhawg Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 Well, I DON'T have one of them fancy-shmantzy computers. I got an old laptop that Columbus brought over that runs on steam.....and a "tin cans connected by string" Wi-Fi connection.....and this site works fine for me. Hulu.com, on the other hand, is a problem.
Harry P. Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 This site works perfectly. If you're having issues, I guarantee you it's a problem on your end, not a problem with the site.

Bob, I have an Intel 2.2 Ghz processor, 2 gigs of RAM, WinXP SP3, and I update regularly. Of course, I can't Log In without activating cookies, so I have cookies activated. I'm very computer savvy and clean up my disk and cache regularly also. Thanks for your response.

Harry, it's not necessarily a problem at the user's end, as most people assume. Many web sites, especially message boards can be extremely slow, no matter how new or fast one's computer may be. I've noticed another message board I belong to that uses I.P. Board software is also extremely slow, yet, other message boards that don't use I.P. Board software zip right along.

Other sites load a lot faster than this one on a more regular basis, I'd say you have some slow server issues at times. My computer is pretty clean and mean, and this site can be slow at times. Other times it blazes right along.
