'70 Grande Posted May 9 Posted May 9 I recently got this 4-cylinder inline engine in a parts box and I'm trying to find out what kit it may have come from? It is either 1/24 or 1/25 scale, sort of "looks" like it's 1/24 to my eye. It was molded in White, the previous owner spray painted it Blue which makes me wonder if it might be a Ford engine? I'm also curious what parts might be missing, I think I'll need a valve cover at the least. Any idea where this engine came from?
Ace-Garageguy Posted May 9 Posted May 9 (edited) Yup, looks like a 2.3 L4 from a Pinto or Mustang or Ranger, with a slushbox... You'll need a cam cover and an exhaust manifold EDIT: The old 2.0 L4, a vastly superior engine IMHO, looks quite similar, but only has two freeze plugs on the block. Edited May 9 by Ace-Garageguy 1
'70 Grande Posted May 10 Author Posted May 10 So it's 1/25 then. I'll need to find the cam cover for the top of the engine and an exhaust manifold... anything else? Wondering if anyone in the 1:1 world ever installed Weber side-draft carbs and a header on one of these little 4-bangers to give it a performance boost... thoughts, anyone?

1930fordpickup Posted May 10 Posted May 10 They run this engine in dirt cars. One of the hot rod type shows put one together and was running ot on the dyno. 4 barrel carb intake.
Mark Posted May 10 Posted May 10 The cam cover was on the plated tree in those kits. I believe the '77 reissue kits have two of them for some unknown reason.
stitchdup Posted May 10 Posted May 10 plenty other options too supercharged down drafts injected turbo and twin 45s which is prbably the most common 1

Yes, two sidedraft Weber 40 DCOEs on a 2-liter, with headers and a cam. Very quick for what it was.

Its very entertaining. I had one from a injection sierra in my mk2 escort. made 110bhp and due to the base car being originally a 1300 crossflow, a lot of that entertainment came from only having drum brakes and a 50-50 chance of coming out of a corner forwards. That may be down to the tyre being a mix of radials and crossplys at any given time. great fun with a manual box 1
