I recently got this 4-cylinder inline engine in a parts box and I'm trying to find out what kit it may have come from?

It is either 1/24 or 1/25 scale, sort of "looks" like it's 1/24 to my eye. It was molded in White, the previous owner spray painted it Blue which makes me wonder if it might be a Ford engine?

I'm also curious what parts might be missing, I think I'll need a valve cover at the least.

Any idea where this engine came from?

Yup, looks like a 2.3 L4 from a Pinto or Mustang or Ranger, with a slushbox...

You'll need a cam cover and an exhaust manifold

EDIT: The old 2.0 L4, a vastly superior engine IMHO, looks quite similar, but only has two freeze plugs on the block.

So it's 1/25 then. I'll need to find the cam cover for the top of the engine and an exhaust manifold... anything else?

Wondering if anyone in the 1:1 world ever installed Weber side-draft carbs and a header on one of these little 4-bangers to give it a performance boost... thoughts, anyone?

yes, its also the basis for the cosworth turbo motors and massively tunable if you look to europe

The cam cover was on the plated tree in those kits.  I believe the '77 reissue kits have two of them for some unknown reason.

Yes, two sidedraft Weber 40 DCOEs on a 2-liter, with headers and a cam. Very quick for what it was.

MGB? MG TD? Lotus 7, Europa, Elan?  Mazda Miata? Any Ford T or A or '32 or '33-'34 or even later? Datsun 510? Datsun or Toyota pickup? Old Jeep? '33 Willys? '40 Willys? Anglia or Thames panel?  Henry J?  Revell '50 Austin? Ancient Revell Austin Healey? Bugeye Sprite? Triumph TR3? Lindberg Triumph GT6? '60s Alfa Romeo Spyder or coupe? BMW 2002? Any smallish Japanese RWD coupe or sedan?

These little engines can easily make a reliable and streetable 150 HP naturally aspirated, 200+ blown or turboed, up to around 400 in racing tune (still with the original-style SOHC head), and don't weigh much.

That's plenty to be entertaining in a light car.

Its very entertaining. I had one from a injection sierra in my mk2 escort. made 110bhp and due to the base car being originally a 1300 crossflow, a lot of that entertainment came from only having drum brakes and a 50-50 chance of coming out of a corner forwards. That may be down to the tyre being a mix of radials and crossplys at any given time. great fun with a manual box
