It’s complex and a bit fiddly, but it does have a lot of detail. It was basically nearly state of the art for its time.Â

stavanzer Posted June 25 Posted June 25 It is my firm belief that the 1972 Facelift of the Jeepster helped to kill it off. Sales were not great in 1971, but the squared off nose destroyed the Jeep "Look" and made it indistinguishable from the Bronco, and Blazer of the same year. The "Bad Idea Fairy" seemed to spend most of her time in the Corporate Business Office and Design Studios at AMC in the 1970s. Jeep was the Golden Goose and AMC flirted with various ways of trying to kill it off over the years too. It makes me Sad because the CJ-5/CJ-7, Javelin and AMX are some of my favorite cars. 1

Can-Con Posted July 1 Posted July 1 Something to keep in mind,, To backdate the kit to the earlier grille style you need not only the grille and hood but the fenders and inner fenders as well. All the sheet metal from the cowl forward is completely different. 1

I know. And some of those parts are still in the kit.

Is Olsen Bros doing that body currently Mike ? I was under the impression that they closed down shop except for the one bro trying to get caught up on paid back orders and offering a very limited selection of small stuff.

To the best of my knowledge the body is no longer available, I was lucky enough to get one when they were making them.
Ragtop Man Posted July 7 Posted July 7 Well, if this isn't the most screaming 3D or resin opportunity in the bidness, I don't know what is. AMC was not looking for extra work or investement at the time, so I'd wager most of whatever needs changing would happen at a convenient panel line. As for, "What in blue hell were they thinking...?" AMC was probably looking at other entries in the market (Bronco, Scout, rumored Blazer) thinking they needed an easy way to keep interest in the product going. Since that modern look was working for the others... why not for them? Strikes me much akin to Studebaker adding the notch style Thunderbird roof and Benzo grille to the Hawk/Starliner to make the GT. 2

But, instead of standing out, they lost their distinct identity amongst the others, IMHO.
