Quiet Eric Posted July 7 Posted July 7 Early Chevy II/Novas aren't my favorite cars, but I knew the Mobius '65 gasser kit would be great to use for other buids. I wanted to do an Olds version and it took a while but I picked up a decent built '62. The last time I worked on this project was in '22 but I am planning to get back to it soon. The wheeelbase was pretty darn close. Took a little bit of work on the wheel tubs and I might have had to take some off the sides of the floor pan to fit between the rockers. I carved some of the Cutlass interior floor away around the transmission tunnel and it fit too. I thought about cutting the interior tub apart to use the side panels and seats but that is more work than I wanted. I will likely cut the stock seats out, flatten the floor there, and use some racing buckets instead. The hood was missing from the Cutlass, but the Nova hood is a pretty close match. It will take some filling on the back edge and front corners, but close enough for a racecar. The engine is a blown Olds 394 from I think a willys kit, but I can't remember exactly. The next steps will be replacing the core support and radiator with something more realistic, stripping the old paint to start bodywork, and "rechroming" the bumpers. 8
TECHMAN Posted July 16 Posted July 16 Now that's a new twist...... Olds powered Olds Gasser, definately COOL!!!! Good to see taking an old kit, and doing something creative with it. 👍👍 DJ 1

rv1963 Posted July 16 Posted July 16 Nice idea, I don't think I have ever seen this car as a gasser. 1
Moparman18064 Posted July 16 Posted July 16 Cool concept, always nice to see something that is not the usual, often done . It definitely works! I’ m watching 1
TarheelRick Posted July 16 Posted July 16 Love the older style gassers, will definitely watch this build. 1
Quiet Eric Posted August 20 Author Posted August 20 A little progress, got the body stripped. It spent the better part of 3 days in a Simple Green bath. The bright green came off very quickly...but there was some avocado stuff underneath that was ON THERE! It probably would have come off easier with something stronger like brake fluid, but I already had the jug of simple green in the garage. Mostly it just softened the paint to the point where I could scrape it off. This will only get a minor cleanup, no modifications though I do have to finish the hood. I'm not sure what color it'll be. 2
