Nitro330 Posted August 8 Posted August 8 I've had these decals for many years and this is a project that I finally pushed myself to do. Just finished this week. I was always a WJ fan and wanted to make sure I did it justice. Started with the Revell "Chill Factor" generic olds pro stock (Didn't want to use my WJ version). Wasn't sure how much detail I was going to do with it because these kits are not the best. So I just started and figured it out as I went along. Did the interior first and spent a bit of time getting the mold lines sanded on the cage. Also, cut out the transmission tunnel and built a new one to accomodate a Lenco air pod transmission from VCG Resins. Added the airlines and re-did the shifter as well as adding interior electronics, belts and an aftermarket tach. Now that its done, you can hardly see any of it! LOL. Re-did all of the springs in the chassis with actual springs. Cut off the front clip before I had any idea how I was going to make it hold back on. Ended up using mini magnets that I built into the frame and inside fendors as well as aluminum rod and tube at the bottom to line it up. Also cut out the trunk lid and used photoetch Dzus plates from FutureAttraction to support it. Scratch built the parachute brace, spoiler braces, wheelie wheels and added a chute from Pro Tech. Rear tires are 3D printed (don't remember where they are from) and are much more accurate looking than the kit tires. Wheels were scavenged from a Glidden pro stock Thunderbird kit and re-chromed with Revell Chrom spray. On the engine I used valve covers from Competition Resins and scratch built the intake, remote oil filter plate and dry sump oil tank. Wired and plumbed to a decent detail. Since this thing called "work" seems to get in the way of my model building all the time, it took me a while to do, but I am happy with the results. 11
Mopar2 Posted August 9 Posted August 9 Wow beyond wow...On an older Oldsmodile Pro Stock.Great detailed build...Very clean...
Hemifever Posted August 9 Posted August 9 Very nice job. Engine detail is awesome, carb linkage looks right on. Congrats.
Len Woodruff Posted August 10 Posted August 10 Nice. How did you get the bigger tires on the rear? This kit comes with narrower slicks than the other kits.
iBorg Posted August 10 Posted August 10 Looks great. I love the valve covers. A lot of nice details that deserve a second look.
Dragline Posted August 10 Posted August 10 Truly Epic build. I would be honored to have that on my shelf I assure you.

Actually didn't have to change anything, they fit right in. No modifications required. The kit supplied tires looked really undersized. 1
Maurice Henderson Posted August 10 Posted August 10 Bro, you did WJ proud with this one..I'm a big WJ fan also..The detail and finish are on point..The stance is right on..I've built quite a few WJ cars to include both white cars(the plain white before he got GM Performance sponsorship) the AC Delco car, Blue GM Performance Olds and Firebird, both black Superman cars and Kurts 1st in the 6s car..I now have his black 83 Cutlass and 71 Camaro on the bench right now..Again WJ would be proud, but his quote would be "The car was a tool that I used to accomplish the goal that I set out!!!" If you're going to do anymore WJ builds get his book Drag Racing's Warren THE PROFESSOR Johnson.

What color are you using for the Camaro? I have the WJ book and it just says "a rich red tone".

Brutalform Posted Wednesday at 01:48 AM Posted Wednesday at 01:48 AM Amazing work you put into this build. I love it.
Maurice Henderson Posted Friday at 07:03 AM Posted Friday at 07:03 AM Mikey, I have looked and tried to get this Kandy Brandywine from so many places and always come up short...So when I was building my WJ Vega, I searched on Ebay and found the guys I posted earlier..I know it's expensive, but I figured I could at least 2 1/2 models out of it..So it was worth it and it's real automatic paint.
