FoMoCo66 Posted October 24 Author Posted October 24 I just had to do another mochup. The frame and suspension is complete and the engine is in its final resting place. 6 1
lucky 130 Posted October 27 Posted October 27 I truly admire your detail and craftmanship. The only suggestion I might have is what seems to have been forgotten by most builders is dulling down the tires not just on the treads, but the side walls. Simply take an old worn toothbrush, dip into baking soda( damp brush) and scrub tires, will take the shine right down. No one seems to do this anymore. Just a suggestion. Thanks for sharing. 3
Zippi Posted October 28 Posted October 28 The ole Willy's is looking good. Just can't go wrong with a Willy's. 1
FoMoCo66 Posted October 28 Author Posted October 28 Thanks everyone! I got the body in its candy coat and clear this weekend, here's a quick moch up. I also decided to ditch the pie crust because this is turning out to be more of a mid 60s build so I went with some goodyear blue streaks. Thanks for looking. Elliot Hamm 1
Sledsel Posted October 29 Posted October 29 That thing is looking sweet! Love the mods and updates you did. What are the headers made from? I have tried to do my own in the past with great failure!

I have tried to do my own in the past with great failure! The pipes are solder, collectors are heat shrink and evergreen, and the flange is evergreen. I find it easy to drill holes in the block the size of the solder so it fits snug, then bend them into shape. To hold it together I just glue them to the header flange I made and also glue them to the evergreen part of the collector. 2

Thanks, I tried solder and it looked to big, maybe I'll look for smaller solder...
bill-e-boy Posted Friday at 07:02 PM Posted Friday at 07:02 PM This is a kool build - a real old timey flavour that I am liking I have used solder for headers and have found it a lot easier to work with than trying to shape round plastic to fit. 1 hour ago, Sledsel said: Thanks, I tried solder and it looked to big, maybe I'll look for smaller solder... I have three or four sizes that I use 1.6mm, 1.7mm and 2mm with some small bits of other sizes if I go digging. I got the 2mm and 1.7mm online specifically for model building - the 1.6mm and a smaller size is what I use at my 1:1 work bench 1
FoMoCo66 Posted Saturday at 11:40 PM Author Posted Saturday at 11:40 PM Thanks everyone for the reply and compliments! I ended up liking one of the photos I took to of this car I changed my profile pick to it 🤣.
rustybill1960 Posted 22 hours ago Posted 22 hours ago I have heard of the use of solder from many builders. I guess I will have to bite the bullet and get some to try. It seems a bit pricey, but I guess if no one has remade the plastic tube with wire in it, solder is the way to go. Solder does make headers look very sharp indeed. I really like the look you have going with this build; course I am a sucker for the Willys in any form! Thank You for sharing with Us here. Looking forward to more, Later 1
