59 Chevy Task Force

Hi everyone. Most of you will not know me yet. I'm normally at home in 'big rigs and heavy equipment'!

What I'm doing here?

To begin with, I'm a fan of the movie 'Convoy' and I've already built 7 rigs from the movie. Since my shelf has become quite full and there are no more trucks from the movie I really want to build I decided to build these two vehicles to fill up the shelf:

First one is this 59 Chevy Task Force 3100:

My question:

Does anyone here know if there's a kit in 1/25 scale I could use?

The box I would scratch build or print. I only need the pick-up truck.

If there's none on the market I'll have to design it myself. I was just hoping I wouldn't have to! 

This will be the second one:

This Chartreuse micro bus. As far as I can see, basically also a Chevy , quite similar to the Task Force but larger.

I'd be happy to get any information on potential kits of this one too.

amt do a fleetside 57 cameo pick up with that cab. i'm not if sure if they do a stepside version  and thats not a 59, the 59 has twin headlights.

OK, I got a kit that comes close but not the one shown here!

I would have gotten one but only on eBay from the US which means the shipping was more than the cost for the kit.

I got this 1955 Chevy Cameo kit:

Of course I have to make some adjustments.

The bed side walls will be turned around and rear fenders added. Also I'll make new wheels. The kit wheels are to slim and too small.

The fenders here are still not sanded but I think you can see what I'm getting at!

New rims:

Here the fenders are sanded but still look a bit rough. More work to do yet!

New grille:

 

The rear window will be partially painted to make it look like a flat window that doesn't bend around the b-pillar!

The cab and other exterior parts are primered.

Hope to get the base coat on this evening!

The chassis and engine are completed!

Because of the bigger wheels I lifted the chassis by 3mms. Hope it's enough!

FYI, the Cameo inner bed walls are the same as the step-side bed. No need to use the outer walls. Keep up the good work!

Thanks but the inner walls would have to be modified. They're not angled at the top edge. I'll need that as an additional support for the box.

Therefore I'm using the turned around outer walls!

The bed itself won't be visible anyway cause of the box!

Base coat is on!

A few squirts came out at the end. Didn't notice the cup was already empty! 

But I'm not upset. Up on the shelf it won't matter!

A bit of progress:

The interior:

Body mounted on the chassis:

Grille and windows installed:

Side walls attached:

(I used square styrene profile to add more glueing area for the side walls)

Hood and head lights attached:

Front bumper and some chrome bits attached.

I had actually printed a new grille but I didn't like the results so I used the original kit grille, painted the inside black, rechromed the neccessary webs and then bent a 1.5mm brass rod to shape the inner part of the grille and chromed it with a pen!

The rear fenders were a bit too wide so I had to reduce them a bit and reprint them!

Here you can see the square tube I used.

Just cut it off and glued it on. Won't be visible anyway!

Take another closer look, Jurgen. The inner walls of the box are exactly the same on that kit as the regular stepside kit. In the kit, as on the real trucks the outer fiberglass skins were just added to the regular box in place of the regular fenders.

They are exactly correct, do not need to be modified at all.

Yes, that's true but I needed the outside walls turned.

I would have had to add the horizontal surfaces on the inside panels! This way I didn't have to modify!

The rear fenders are on!

With the widened track in the rear it looks satisfying I'd say!

Now I'll start designing the box! Might have to do some scratch work on that too!

I finally managed to print the box. Here's a mock-up:

Still needs sanding before I put the primer on. The door frame is printed too and ready for primering. 

These are the front and rear walls of the box before assembly, the door frame and the roof rack.

The door frame is white because I wanted to print the whole box in white. Didn't work out. Something was wrong with the filament eventhough it was brand new and still in it's vaccumed packaging.

So I switched back to black (sound's like Amy Winehouse).

Made the antenna out of a 0.4 nozzle cleaner I have lots of them) and a self made (printed) base.

I also turned around the hood badge. I saw in a movie screenshot that it looked different.

Luckily the Chevy badge looks the same upside down!

I finished and attached the mirrors. The brackets are hand bent 1mm brass rod pieces, the mirrors are printed with a chromed 0.5mm foil.

and I actually managed to print the box in white too. Makes it easier to paint it in white.

I made a count of parts:

In total it will be 143 parts of which 86 are original kit parts, 19 scratch and box parts and 38 specially designed and printed parts.
