Round2 Walmart kits with unique box art.

Just got back from picking up some groceries at our local Walmart. No kits out yet. Spoke with a stocker and showed the photo from this thread. Told that there is still a ton of Christmas only toys out back in the trailers. Right now toys are competing with duck and deer hunting floor space. Said to keep checking back.

They did recently tool up the Chevy grill for the Sodbuster stepside, so I guess there's a chance it could be a Chevy.  But I don't think they have a Fleetside Chevy tailgate that they could use.

Notice that the '60 Ford truck is one of the kits with different box art.  Looks like the box is the same size as all the other kits.  For that $19.99 price I'm guessing it doesn't include the trailer.  Interesting development.

Over the weekend I stopped at one of my local Walmarts to pick up some Valvoline.  Was surprised to see they had an aisle display of kits, but it was the "old" selection that's been popping up over the past year.  None of this unique box art.

The 57 is the old tooling, but decontented, only stock parts and a decal sheet with big graphics

I never thought I would live to see the day when 20 bucks is a good price for an american brand model kit

Mine had them during the last 10 months. But they sat there not moving. Then they must have clearances them because one day. All gone. Sure to pop un on Ebay or Marketplace. I doubt that seeing they didn't move quickly. They won't bring them back.

Yep, when I stared building model cars, they were $1.39 retail ($1.09 at local discount store), then they jumped to $1.49 when more pieces were added, then up to $2.00 for pickup trucks with opening hoods. You could get a tube of Pactra or Testors glue for $0.10 and small jars of Testors paint for $.10 as well, the larger round Pactra paints were $0.15, 50% more than Testors! 

Those were the days, and a McDonald's hamburger was $0.15, fries were $0.10, and a large pop was $0.15.  Times change, and once prices go up barbecue of inflation, they never come down.

OKAY, I went out about bought the Walmart 66 T-Bird to see what the tires looked like and to see what color it was.

I get it home and un-box it and................... NO WHITEWALL/REDLINE TIRES! The box bottom shows two sets of tires but there was one set in the box, blackwalls.  

It is green, very very green! 

Below are pics of the green, a closeup of the box art showing the tires I assume are missing and a closeup of the back of the box showing two set of tires.

Still a nice kit. Watch front valance fit though.

What are the optional wheels? They do not look like the super deep slotted wheels that came in previous releases.

1) I agree - and actually think the colored plastic makes it kinda cool.

2) They appear to be the same BBS-style wheels that have been included in every reissue since the mid-nineties tooling update.

The kit has three sets of wheels, stock wheel covers, some 90's style spoke wheels and a set of stock-ish looking wire wheels with spinners. The super deep chrome steel slots are gone.

I doubt the Walmarts near me will get any.  The ones from last Christmas just sat there and finally disappeared about a month ago. on clearance.
