Hi All,

I've been building model cars for 1 year.  It's my retirement hobby.  Just getting to where I can probably contribute the same amount of advice as I seek.  I'm on my 7th build - it's the Revell 1968 Dodge Charger R/T.  I had a good day at the work bench - dry fitting interior, body, chassis to determine assembly sequence.  Things are working out well, and motivated me to join.  I hope to chat with some of you.

Welcome Jim! On your 7th build in just a year? Impressive!

Ha! Yeah, it has been a busy year.  It must be that first-year enthusiasm.  It will wear off, I'm sure.  I had a little pressure moving me along.  A lot of starts, stops, shuffling, even building three kits at once.

My first kit was a gift from my son, so I had to do a super good job on that.  I wanted to build it as a replica of a local car I would see often when I was a kid.  But I had no idea what I was getting in to, so I set it aside and built a different kit first, just for practice.

Then an old friend reminded me of a car he had in the '70s - so I built a replica of that.

And then... I came across a decal kit for a vintage Minnesota Highway Patrol car that another friend had in the '70s.  We got in trouble a time or two with that, so I had to build a tribute to it.

A best friend from Junior High School passed this year.  He was a model car builder.  So, of course I built a tribute to him.

Then a couple more cars just for fun - and here we are.

Thanks for sitting through a very long-winded reply.

Hi All,

I appreciate all the replies.  I have a confession though...  I build pretty much straight out of the box.  Browsing the forum, I see there are a lot of members who do A LOT of customizing.  I have purchased some parts and decals to complete the look of a replica or tribute, but the closest I've come to doing anything custom is an Air-Grabber delete and fabbing some vinyl roof molding with styrene strips.  So, not much.  I hope we can still sit at the same lunch table.

G’day Jim. Occasionally I’ll load up a model with custom parts, but mostly l build from what’s in the box as well. Welcome to the forum, looking forward to seeing your 68 Charger finished. 👍🏻

The beauty of this forum is the multitude of builders with different interests and varied skill levels but most importantly the willingness to share their experience and ideas.  Welcome to a great forum.
