RJWood Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 I wonder if this means the U.S. military will be buying its Hummers from China?
Joe Handley Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 I wonder if this means the U.S. military will be buying its Hummers from China? Nope, hte military doesn't drive Hummers, they drive Humvees which are being made by AM General who is completely independant from GM.
Smart-Resins Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 Now when I was in the service, it was my understanding that the AM General was connected to GM, and thus why GM sells the humvee wich is a glrified luxury hummer. But I am no one to argue. Now onto the other thing, selling hum v to stay out of bankrupcy, I would argue, according to yahoo news, general motors filed bankrupcy this morning, then this afternoon they announce the selling of the humv so they couls settle some of thier debt problems so they could work through bankrupcy quicker and restructured and out of bankrupcy! That is what I read anyways and how I took it! All I care about is that they keep selling chevy's! Of course, it did upset me when they stopped making oldsmobiles!! Jody
B_rad88 Posted June 3, 2009 Author Posted June 3, 2009 well, now there saying they got buyers for saturn and saab too!
Jon Cole Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 Maybe this thread would be a good place to show any model Hummers or Humvee's we built? The only Hummer that I ever liked is the H1. The Vee's are bad also! Here is one that I built as a tribute to my dad, who was co-founder of a volunteer CB radio group who assisted local law enforcement and rescue staff when called upon, mostly for traffic control. No, they never had one of these, but I know he would have liked it. I built the cap, the grill guard, and the front skid plate out of either Evergreen or Plastruct I did the graphics on adhesive- backed colored labels, reversing out the letters by coloring around the letter(s) with a Sharpie marker. Crude, but it was all I had at the time. Mirrors were also scratch-built, and can be swung inward. I wish there was a more detailed chassis available for the Hummer H1.
purplehornies Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 (edited) Hey that’s great. The Prez says it's BAD for the environment to drive Hummers. BUT it's going to be OK for the Chinese to drive them ??? What the he!! is wrong with this picture. Edited June 3, 2009 by purplehornies

Joe Handley Posted June 4, 2009 Posted June 4, 2009 This was posted on Jeep forum yesterday http://www.amgeneral.com/vehicles/hummer/ Hummer® Vehicles Producing a civilian version of the battle-tested military Humvee® was a natural progression for AM General. In 1992, when the HUMMER was introduced as a civilian truck, it had become apparent that the public understood its unique off-road capabilities. For nearly a decade, the HUMMER caught the country's eye and it became a highly sought after, one-of-a-kind vehicle. It's an icon of strength, durability and individualism. In late 1999, AM General and General Motors Corporation finalized an agreement to jointly pursue product, marketing and distribution opportunities for HUMMER. Under the final agreement, GM acquired the exclusive ownership of the HUMMER brand name worldwide and the original HUMMER was renamed the HUMMER H1. In 2002, AM General opened its new HUMMER H2® Assembly Plant in Mishawaka, Ind. next to the plant that produces the military Humvee. There it assembles the exciting SUV and SUT variants of the HUMMER H2, designed and brought to market by GM. In 2006, AM General and General Motors jointly decided to cease production of the larger HUMMER H1. AM General continues to provide parts and service for the HUMMER H1. Although GM acquired the HUMMER brand, they do not own any part of AM Genneral LLC. For product information, HUMMER dealers and other HUMMER specific information, please visit HUMMER.com. As well as this I'll be honest, that Hummer Scooter looks pretty sweet, but a Jeep Cherokee one would look cooler
Harold Posted June 4, 2009 Posted June 4, 2009 To quote P.T. Barnum, "There's a sucker born every minute." Caveat Emptor, China.
mr moto Posted June 4, 2009 Posted June 4, 2009 Did anybody know that AM General is basically the last surviving piece of American Motors?
purplehornies Posted June 4, 2009 Posted June 4, 2009 Did anybody know that AM General is basically the last surviving piece of American Motors? In not to long there won't be such a thing as "American" motors. They will all be owned by China, India, Japan ot Italy.....
CAL Posted June 4, 2009 Posted June 4, 2009 There really isn't anything special about the newest generation Hummers anyway. They are just big boxy bodies on their truck platform. Interestingly, Penski is looking at Saturn. Opel is going back to the homeland. They are trying to get what Opel did and give SAAB back to Sweden. Even that hasn't kept them out of bankruptcy. They are done, so done. They even been pulled from the DOW after reaching a all time .27 cent a share, but that's not why they got pulled. They got pulled because of the rules of the stock exchange, and company in BK cannot be on the DOW.
B_rad88 Posted June 5, 2009 Author Posted June 5, 2009 (edited) i just found out my friend owns a hummer mountian bike! Edited June 5, 2009 by KUZTOMMODELS88

evilone Posted June 6, 2009 Posted June 6, 2009 No the military is buying internationals now.Who owns international? According to my teacher at UTI ford owns international as well as cummings engines, allson transmissions, and all the goodies that GM and chrysler is liquidating.
B_rad88 Posted June 7, 2009 Author Posted June 7, 2009 why would "Mexicans" have more use for a Hummer than the Chinese? Dave hey dave, you ever go to mexico? its sand, and rough land! they would be able to keep hummers use! instead of turning it into a micro-compact!
Aaronw Posted June 7, 2009 Posted June 7, 2009 Maybe you don't realize China does have a lot of wide open spaces and remote villages where a 4x4 could be useful. It's not all city, part of the country borders India and Pakistan where you can find some of the tallest mountains on the planet. I'm sure a Hummer would be just as useless in Mexico city as it would be in Shanghai.
evilone Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 Isnt the mexican military using them to fight in the drug wars going on down there.I have heard that we sold like 10,000 to the mexican military all decked out with guns and other goodies to have a fighting chance against the drug runners.
