Smart-Resins Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 I actually have that pic somewheres on my photobucket along with more VW's amungs around 3,000 usorted photos. I look forward to seeing this one progress! Jody
VW Dave Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 It's good to see one of those kits put to good use....I generally view them as donors. I have a lot of spares from those kits, just ask me. If you are planning a turbo or N/A motor, I can help out with materials and reference materials(especially for the exhaust). Check out the galleries over at www.thesamba.com for good views.
Fuel Coupe Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 I cant see the pics you posted due to the firewall at work BUT if you want to know about naturally aspirated VW's heres a old pic of my 12 sec street VW engine. and the heap it was in I sold it a few years ago to a chopper builder and it had a few seconds of fame on his show. Fuel Coupe Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 Was his name Jesse James? Sorry for the hijack Envious, Yes thats him. Jesse bought it from me a few years ago and if you watch this weeks episode of Jesse James is a dead man you can see it in the back when they are building his Alaska bike... Cool stuff. Back to Jims build

Foxer Posted June 26, 2009 Posted June 26, 2009 Great idea .. I love bugs in any form. This is looking good!
Jon Cole Posted June 27, 2009 Posted June 27, 2009 Great plan for a build, Jim! Don't forget to fill in the headlights on the fenders, as the car depicted has decals ala 'funny car' style.
Nick F40 Posted June 27, 2009 Posted June 27, 2009 Wow, now this is cool. Haven't seen many. That turquoise one is beautiful!
envious8420 Posted June 28, 2009 Author Posted June 28, 2009 Thanks guys! i need to pick up another bug kit now, Which one has the best motor/transaxle and front suspension? I wanna build a sand rail after this one.
Fuel Coupe Posted June 28, 2009 Posted June 28, 2009 Tamiya 66 VW without a doubt is the best vw kit out there...
olarge1 Posted June 28, 2009 Posted June 28, 2009 Cool Build, .. I have been thinking about doing a Volksrod.. cant wait to see it done!
PlasticWagens Posted June 28, 2009 Posted June 28, 2009 Tamiya 66 VW without a doubt is the best vw kit out there... Without a doubt!
PITTSBURGH412 Posted June 29, 2009 Posted June 29, 2009 nice build so far ............................. shame we havent seen you over in the dynasty thread for a long time swing threw and drop some pics bro
Hizoot Posted June 29, 2009 Posted June 29, 2009 Some more progress and a few mock ups. That's going to look sharp when complete..! I like this, it's original without getting carried away like I did with mine. Hizoot
envious8420 Posted July 5, 2009 Author Posted July 5, 2009 ###### Jeff! thats nuts. Hey Dave or Shane, wheres going to be the best place to cut the spring tubes to narrow the front end?
Fuel Coupe Posted July 5, 2009 Posted July 5, 2009 (edited) make the cuts to the outside of where the beam mounts to the bulk head and the inside of the shock towers. that's where the 1:1's are cut.... Also find you a set of MPC front runners like whats in the MPC challenger or Mustang funny car kits. I believe they are a perelli (sp). They will scale out close to a 135 series tire that is found on the front of most race VW's... Edited July 5, 2009 by TxRat
envious8420 Posted July 5, 2009 Author Posted July 5, 2009 Thanks Guys! Ive got a set of the goodyear front runners i was gonna use, i looked for the pegasus set, but everywhere i went they were sold out. I got a set of goodyear eagle slicks from a nascar kit, that im gonna re-shape/make shorter for the rear. had to hit the dpmc site for the kit destructions, as my 3 year old made the originals disappear. i found a set of headlight decals from the 55 sportsman kit to use. im just waiting on the spare hoods to get here from VW Dave so i can strech the hood down some more. still kinda need to source some wheels im gonna use. A bud from another site is supplying the 53's from the herbie kit from polar lights, but they look like stickers to me, we'll see when they arrive. not too much progress to show as of now, so ill save taking pics you have already seen for another post. later gators!
Jon Cole Posted July 5, 2009 Posted July 5, 2009 "A bud from another site is supplying the 53's from the herbie kit from polar lights, but they look like stickers to me, we'll see when they arrive." Sadly, those Lindberg "decals" are indeed stickers. They're OK in a pinch, but you may want to try FeeBay for decals.
envious8420 Posted July 6, 2009 Author Posted July 6, 2009 thats kinda what i figured. thanks Shane, Whats the average cut per side?
Fuel Coupe Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 looking at some of your pics the track width may be okay? Dave The back spacing on "VW" wheels is pretty wide but is always cool to have the Winnebago look. Take a scale 1 1/2 from each side for a total of 3". Makes for a nice tuck...
