I built my share of these kits when I was a kid, but with the Rommel, just to have the skeleton figures is payoff enough for me. It brings 2, so we'll be seeing more of them driving rat rots, etc . . .

I agree with Harry. Anything that makes people support the hobby is fine in my book.

Both of these are cool looking kits. If I ever see one in the flesh, it will be the first time. My childhood build memories are of the NEW AMT 58 T-bird and the 25 T Bucket... hehehe. I was out chasing girls when these were first issued. Think I'm too old for Tom Daniels.

I'll be anticipating some radical and cool alterations of these here .. so get yours and get building!! :)

It's not a waste if it sells, which I definitely think it will. After all, that is what Revell is in the business of doing ... selling model kits.

Yep, precisely!

Of course they get a lot of crazy demands from people with absolutely no grip on the reality of "business sense".

I have no interest in these two models; showrods don't do anything for me, never have, probably never will. I guess I was a bit too late to the scene, and always more interested in factory stock, factory show cars, and customs/street rods that are clean enough to be factory-looking efforts.

But if selling these showrods make's 'em the money so that I can hopefully get a 2010+ GT500, ZR1, and maybe a 458 Italia, I'll be plenty happy. And I do like seeing the ones built by the people who do love 'em :)

OK, I confess, I love show rods, always have!!! I to grew up when all these crazy, wacky kits were the rage. These two kits are two of the most sought after TD kits ever, and with the collector prices on eBay going through the roof over the past few years I'm glad to finally be able to add these to my collection!!! It's really great to see Revell jump in with these reissues along with round 2's "Show Rod Revival"!!! These kit's aren't for everybody, and the manufactures know it, thus they have subjects for everyone, and I'm stoked that us show rodders are getting our niche filled now too!!!

OK, Revell, for your next trick, could we get the T'rantula back? And the Bad Medicine? Pretty please?

After the 2010 GT500, ZR1, and GT2 C6R... m'kay?

I spoke with Tom Daniel a few years ago (before he moved out of Las Vegas) and he told me the CEO of Monogram "back then" was ex-military (WWII USAF, I think?) and he said this guy hated Rommel. He told Tom, "There is no way we are going to release this kit anymore" and supposedly destroyed the mold with an axe. That would be one logical explanation for its not being reissued. If the RR is a new tooling, it means the old RRs will be that much more valuable to some people (collectors). Me, I just wanna build one again (had the original when I was a kid) without having to pay $200.

99GT: I understand where you are coming from, but I'll share this with you. I worked as a nightclub and radio DJ for 20 years. From time to time, a manager would come to me and say, "I don't like this song, don't play it anymore." And I would remind them: It's not what YOU want, it's what your CUSTOMERS want -- they're paying the bills. There are many, many reissues that do not interest me, while others cause me to purchase them by the case. It's all a matter of taste and I am sure that Monogram saw a market and went for it.

I hope they can sell a bazillion and three of these kits... then use that newfound wealth to tool up a full-detail 1/8 scale Superbird, which is what I am interested in seeing!

And mmmmeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee too.! Or even 1/12 will do for me

Am I a bad person now? I ordered my 2 Rommel's at Amazon.com, for 23 bucks, so normal retail. It was helpful, so I also could ship a book or two to my girlfriend for free.

Well, I for One, won't by one.

I never saw the kit b-4.

Haven't seen the kit yet or any pics.

I don't have anything to remissness about it.

No nostalgia.

But for me, it is a new release.

It hasn't been released in almost 40yrs (not like the ones that get reissued every few yrs)

Give Revell a few points for releasing a real oldie.

Just Maybe they'll Dig back to some other oldies or add the extra $$ into producing newer kits.

It looks cool, to me.

Looks interesting, to me.

It may have more than one use.

I'll buy 2 at least.

Maybe make a half-Track Vette

Welcome to... page 4! OK, I haven't read the other 3 pages, so excuse me if this has been mentioned, but I think the skeletons alone will be a good reason to buy this kit! They can go good with a bunch of rat rod builds, and it is easier to cut & reposition a skeleton!

Another idea... cut the body off behind the front seats... good hot rod material maybe?

Only downer is the price! HEY REVELL! How about a coupon for a couple of bucks off our next purchase in each kit! B);)

i am not too interested in either of these but those skeletons do look pretty cool.

i cant believe they created new molds to redo these. i cant imagine them selling enough to make back their costs. but what do i know? i dont have millions for market research. but somehow i am having a hard time visualizing a landslide of sales. are they planning on selling them to kids? i thought kids had forsaken model building? adults then? do they think these designs just have some sort of appeal that will make them fly off the shelves of hobby shops and walmarts? seems puzzling to me.

skeletons are cool though.

If they went to the time, trouble and expense to retool the RR...

Why the heck didn't they make the rear wheels and tracks separate pieces? If any builder wants to make those units look even vaguely realistic, having them cast as one unit makes the job almost impossible.

And even more puzzling... they have the cash to totally retool the RR and the TT, yet when they came out with the recent 150/Black Widow kit, a kit aimed squarely at "serious" adult modelers, apparently the budget wasn't there to include several BW-specific parts (correct front seat w/bolster. dual shocks, correct exhaust, etc.)? :D

These look very nice and i was actually already planning my builds based on the pix of the sprues [Thanks for that].

I built these back in the day and was ALWAYS fond of TD kits. I think I've built nealy all of them over the years. Between him and Dave Deal I am happier than a pig in poo.

These will NOT appeal to everyone, but they will probably be quite a few kids first glue kits. My first glue kit was Deals Wheels Bug Bomb. It was simple to assemble, molded in color [for the most part]. My Dad baought me my first jar paints to paint the driver figure in it. I think he still has it in a box somewehere.

Point is, these are going to sell very well and the expense of reverse engineeering was probably not as bad as some may think.

I'll donate my Mint Aurora VooDoo F/C for reverse engineering if that will mean making them available again.

Welcome additions.

I was messing w/ my RR earlier and talk about a great-fitting kit that practically builds itself! I was particularly impressed by the fit of the front and rear windshield frames. This one's gonna be a BLAST to build!

Ken, you bring up an interesting point, in that a model that "practically builds itself" is exactly the kind of model I would tend to skip over.

To me, the fun in building a kit is in the building. Personally, I get satisfaction from building complex kits... the more parts and intricate detail, the better I like it. I like the challenge of building a "difficult" kit well, and I get a lot of satisfaction out of "mastering" that particular kit. I guess that's why I love Pochers... they're the ultimate automotive kit challenge.

If RR was a subject that interested me, the fact that it is an easy build would actually be a bit of a turn-off. But I fully understand the appeal of a simple kit, where the modeler is free to make as much of it as his/her skill level, patience and "stick-to-itiveness" allows. Sort of a blank canvas on which to show your stuff.

Diff'rent strokes, right? ;)
