S10man Posted November 18, 2006 Posted November 18, 2006 This is my latest work in progress, a 1/12 scale Tamiya Lola T-70 Coupe. Its my first big scale build, and I'm hoping to be able to do it justice. So far, I've got the engine assembled and some details added. I tossed the kit plug wires as they just didn't look right. Also, I make the aluminum intake trumpets and centre pipes and added the fuel lines. I'm now working on the tub, with the front suspension pretty much done, including lines for the brakes and clutch. I also ran lines for the small radiators. The fittings and braided line are scratch built. Finally the radiator is installed.
cruz Posted November 18, 2006 Posted November 18, 2006 Nice job man, one thing about these bigger scale cars is that they force you to add more detail and they always pay off
MonoPed Posted November 18, 2006 Posted November 18, 2006 Yes!! I've never seen one of those built, so I'm definitely gonna follow this build. Your intake trumpets look nice, what size tube did ya use?
ismaelg Posted November 18, 2006 Posted November 18, 2006 WOW! That is looking sooo good! Looking forward to see more of it. Thanks,
Terry Love Posted November 18, 2006 Posted November 18, 2006 Now you've done it. Gone an inspired me to get back to work on mine. I had to strip the paint off the body and just haven't gotten back into it yet, your pics has lit the fire again. Thanks
MrObsessive Posted November 18, 2006 Posted November 18, 2006 Excellent job so far Bill!! I have this kit also (bought it at Toledo a couple years ago) but I just haven't had the nerve to tackle it yet. I'll be following this one too as it's one of my favorite road racers of the '60's! 8)
S10man Posted November 18, 2006 Author Posted November 18, 2006 Yes!! I've never seen one of those built, so I'm definitely gonna follow this build. Your intake trumpets look nice, what size tube did ya use? Thanks everyone for your kind comments. Its a very nice kit indeed, with pretty fair detail and well molded and fitting parts. All the same, its very challenging. Brian: I used 7/32 tubing for the trumpets, and 3/32 for the inner pipes.
Zoom Zoom Posted November 18, 2006 Posted November 18, 2006 This is looking most excellent! One of my favorite cars of all-time, a killer Tamiya kit, and someone building it to a really high standard Can't wait to see the progress and finish!
MonoPed Posted November 18, 2006 Posted November 18, 2006 ... I used 7/32 tubing for the trumpets, and 3/32 for the inner pipes. The flares look consistent and very clean. Nice work! Do you have a pic looking down the stacks at the center tubes?
S10man Posted November 18, 2006 Author Posted November 18, 2006 The flares look consistent and very clean. Nice work! Do you have a pic looking down the stacks at the center tubes? Thanks Brian. I found it much easier to do these using the larger tubing...much less bending etc. I took your advice about cleaning up the punch first.....it made for much better flares with less clean up. Here's a shot looking down on the carbs.
MrObsessive Posted November 18, 2006 Posted November 18, 2006 Thanks Brian. I found it much easier to do these using the larger tubing...much less bending etc. I took your advice about cleaning up the punch first.....it made for much better flares with less clean up. Here's a shot looking down on the carbs. Very, very nice work on those carb stacks!! Uh oh...............you're makin' me wanna break my kit out........as if I don't have enough projects to do!
S10man Posted November 18, 2006 Author Posted November 18, 2006 Thanks Bill. Having seen some of your other work, I would really like to see you tackle this one as well. I'm sure you'd have some excellent ideas for detailing.
MonoPed Posted November 19, 2006 Posted November 19, 2006 Very nice work!! Glad to see you've taken the stack tutorial and ran with it, those look great!
S10man Posted November 19, 2006 Author Posted November 19, 2006 Very nice work!! Glad to see you've taken the stack tutorial and ran with it, those look great! Thanks Brian. If you never had posted that tutorial I'd still be in the dark!
dhamilton61 Posted November 19, 2006 Posted November 19, 2006 S10man, That Lola is looking very good. Especially the engine. Beautiful work on the tubing... Doug
DarylH Posted November 21, 2006 Posted November 21, 2006 It's another "must watch" project! Great work so far.... and inspiration for when I pull mine out of the closet.
jbwelda Posted November 21, 2006 Posted November 21, 2006 yeah great stuff there. i have one on the shelf for one of these winters. how is the fit on it right out of the box? i believe its a pretty old tooling isnt it? then again even old tamiya stuff often beats brand new other brand quality. one love jah bill
S10man Posted November 27, 2006 Author Posted November 27, 2006 yeah great stuff there. i have one on the shelf for one of these winters. how is the fit on it right out of the box? i believe its a pretty old tooling isnt it? then again even old tamiya stuff often beats brand new other brand quality. one love jah bill For the most part, the fit is quite good, but there are a few parts with a bit of a warp in them, particularly the tops of the doors. Hopefully it be ok with a bit of persuasion.
S10man Posted November 27, 2006 Author Posted November 27, 2006 A little update. The body parts are all painted and cleared, and so now its time to start on the cockpit area. I should have some more pics tomorrow.
Gray Smith Posted November 28, 2006 Posted November 28, 2006 This looks great so far. For some reason i've been on a big mid to late 60's race car and indy car kick lately, so this interests me even more. great work, and I look forward to seeing more of this. Gray
MonoPed Posted November 28, 2006 Posted November 28, 2006 very nice - this has the makings of a killer build!! Funny you posted this, I was staring at the still stalled Ferrari 512s, and got to wondering about your T-70 project...
