Yes but not for listing them for 1 cent.

I know what its like when you find something you are looking for and have a chance to actually win it.. I bid on a Swarovski crystal Elephant once for a baby shower give, if you didn't know an elephant with the truck up is good luck, it is suppose to face the door to help out all the bad vibes... anyway I remember that feeling of actually haveing a chance of wining one when I list.

oh and I got it for $30 a steal!

It is all about supply and demand and who is looking that week, one very happy guy got a model for 99 cents yesterday.

I figured I'd go ahead and explain why I do it, only one of ya'll have asked if I was insane and he doesn't bid hahaha.

I hope everyone is haveing a wonderful Labor Day!! Be safe

That's a nice idea Lyn!

However, I've seen penny auctions end up for hundreds of dollars when it's all said and done!

Like you said, it all depends on how badly a group of folks want it! :)

Ed I love thrift stores! The models have kept me from going to them.... I am going this week for sure! and Ed I'm poor, I could sell these models for well more then they are going for, but ya know something.. I think this is the way to go :) making people happy in a very small way... about the bills I hear ya would be cheaper to rent then own in Florida.......... I hope you are doing well ;)

Like Bill said, the opening price doesn't matter, it's where the auction ends up that counts... and you have no control over that.

If you really want to make people happy, list the models at a low "Buy it Now" price.

but where is the fun in bidding if i do that? just curious how that would be better. one auction house or re seller may see it first.

That is the majority of how I buy on Ebay now. It's not as good for the seller as they can make more on an actual auction but as a consumer people will pay stupid money for something that is not worth it just because they just have to win.

I got tired of that game long ago.

No matter what you do, you have no control over who ultimately buys. Yes, it's true that someone may buy the model and just turn around and re-sell it... there's nothing a seller can do to stop that. But if your aim is really to do buyers a favor and give them a fair shot at buying the model at a reasonable price, you'd sell for a low "buy it now" price instead of offering them up at auction. Even though you can't control who ultimately buys, at least you can control how much the model sells for if you sell at a "buy it now" price instead of having people run up the bidding.

My point is, you're not doing anybody a favor by listing the model at one cent. Listing the model at one cent doesn't do a darn thing as far as making the model available at a low price for a potential buyer, because you can't control where the selling price will ultimately end up. The opening price is irrelevant, it's the final (winning) bid that matters.

If your intention is truly to sell at a reasonable price, then why aren't you putting them up for sale at a fixed price here on emodelcars???

Lyn, you're absolutely right about the supply and demand. As long as you feel you're getting the fair market price on your items, or just happy that somebody else is happy, it ain't crazy.

My only concern about a very low opening price would be as a seller and whether I could continue to do it. I would make darn sure that all my fixed costs and minimums are covered in the s&h charges! Then at least I'd know that I'd be around to spread joy among happy modelers everywhere - maybe, if there isn't a bidding war...

Thank you everyone for your input.

Harry I tried emodels... and I will try it again eventually when I have more time to fiddle with it.. however it seems not everyone is inclined to pay for what they bid and won on that site. I spent a month trying to get a guy to pay for 4 models, I emailed the site asking for help on the issue.. how long would i have to wait, how could i just end the deal and never got a reply from them.. the guy should have paid he would have gotten a 2 jo-hans for $40... I don't list all of the models at a low starting price, I still have to cover the cost of ebay and paypal, plus make a lil cash for myself, pesky puter won't work with out electricity haha.

and My ebay ID is Turtle_Rancher

Thank you all once again
