rollinoldskoo Posted April 24, 2010 Posted April 24, 2010 i believe the impala models were the only ones with no post.... all others were biscayne or bel air with post.... the chassis parts look identical to the 65 impala kit in the pics.....
camaroman Posted April 24, 2010 Posted April 24, 2010 The Bel Air and Biscayne were not available with the fastback roofline. The lower line models used a more "formal" roofline ... Now those would be cool to see kitted.
Rick R Posted April 24, 2010 Posted April 24, 2010 '62 was the last year for the Bel Air 2-door hardtop, it didn't sell all that well and dealers wanted more tall-dollar cars. Odd since the Bel-Air bubbletop is now the darling of collectors and modellers everywhere. The '66 Impala looks like a great kit. I'd like to see a Caprice hardtop as a resin offering.
Rob Hall Posted April 25, 2010 Posted April 25, 2010 Interesting...I just noticed the box top doesn't mention that it's an Impala. Odd. I didn't even notice that on the one I bought last week.
Joe Nunes Posted April 25, 2010 Posted April 25, 2010 Thanks for the pics! I remember when I saw this car sitting on the showroom floor at the local Berger Chevrolet dealer in '66; had just started to drive. Man, that car was a REAL looker in its day! Joe
Rob Hall Posted April 25, 2010 Posted April 25, 2010 Or, it might be where the lowrider wheels were deleted from the '65 version. Maybe, though they usually have the lowrider wheels (and the larger California Wheels) on separate chrome trees.
Rob Hall Posted April 25, 2010 Posted April 25, 2010 I've got ideas for at least 3...probably one box stock, one with either TTs or Cragars or the 5-spoke hubcaps from the '65 Chevelle (those look good on '65-66 Impalas, IMHO), and a Biscayne 2dr sedan using the MCW resin kit.
Rob Hall Posted April 25, 2010 Posted April 25, 2010 Those are all excellent ideas, Rob. I think am I'm gonna build mine as a typical '60s-'70s street machine, with a slight rake and '32 Ford TTs. Good idea...I have about 6 sets of those 32 Ford TTs set aside to use on various cars, have a set to use on a Revell '65 Impala. They look so good on '60s cars.
MrObsessive Posted April 25, 2010 Posted April 25, 2010 Pics ... Ahhhh, they DID fix the trailing edge of the C pillar compared to the '65! Good! I just may pick one of these up as this really makes a difference! (To me!)
Rob Hall Posted April 25, 2010 Posted April 25, 2010 Another wheel choice I was thinking of are '67 style Chevy Rallyes.
Guest Posted April 26, 2010 Posted April 26, 2010 Looks tasty, man, this is a crappy time to be out of work and unable to buy anything. What tires are those? Ralley's would look good on it, for sure.
george 53 Posted April 26, 2010 Posted April 26, 2010 I just went downstairs to compare the chrome with the original AMT kit, and I noticed the front roll pan is seperate on the AMT kit, but molded in and chromes on the Revell kit. On the 1:1 Impala's that lower pan was actually a Silver or Argent color. Not that THAT will keep me from gettin a couple of 'em, but it might be a problem if ya need or want to paint it. Won't stop me.
Chuck Kourouklis Posted April 26, 2010 Posted April 26, 2010 (edited) Ahhhh, they DID fix the trailing edge of the C pillar compared to the '65! Good! I just may pick one of these up as this really makes a difference! (To me!) There are a few nits yet, but I'm tellin' ya, I'm likin' this a LOT better than the '65. The windshield is laid ever so slightly back to a better-looking angle, and the c-pillar slope is ever so slightly more upright, making for a pretty big improvement overall. The rear window molding is almost comically superior to the girders on the '65, and the side contours/fender arches look quite a bit closer from a 3/4 view. You may be able to pick some of what I'm talking about out in this comparison photo I shot yesterday: Quite pleased with this kit, feeling an urge to get one going... cruz Posted April 26, 2010 Posted April 26, 2010 Yes!!! Pictures!!!! That's what I'm talking about!!! I just might get at least 2 of these, looks pretty sharp!!!
horsepower Posted April 26, 2010 Posted April 26, 2010 They really did a great job of hiding the mold lines on this one, so fine I almost missed the one across the trunk lid. ( but then I was looking out of the wrong eyeball for close up things)
peterk Posted April 29, 2010 Posted April 29, 2010 I just picked up the new Revell 1966 chev impala ss396. Basically all the chassis parts from the 65 impala. The front grille is totally wrong, it looks almost like a 67. I know, I own a real one. Rest of the kit is nice. I wish they would have separated the frt valance from the grille, but its all wrong anyway. This is not a reissue, if it was it would have been made by AMT.
MyBradKeselowski Posted April 30, 2010 Posted April 30, 2010 Faults or no faults, I want 4 of them...
Modelsbyroni Posted May 2, 2010 Posted May 2, 2010 I GUESS BY NOW EVERYONE KNOWS THEY'RE OUT. GOT THEM 2 WEEKS AGO.
walt francis Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 I was getting real nervous that they were going to cancel this but am I glad they didn't.
MyBradKeselowski Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 I was getting real nervous that they were going to cancel this but am I glad they didn't. I am glad they didn't,considering how bad I've been wanting it...
Ron Hamilton Posted May 6, 2010 Posted May 6, 2010 As I write this post, I just got my Revell '66 Chevy Impala SS Hardtop kit. I have not opened it yet, but I will write a review of the kit, comparing it to the original AMT '66 Chevy Impala SS Hardtop, and the Monogram '65 Chevy Impala SS Hardtop. I was not pleased with the way Monogram handled the roof on the '65, particularly with the rear window. We will see. I will give you an honest opinion, from my point of view.
Mark Posted May 7, 2010 Posted May 7, 2010 Picked one up today, it looks pretty good. The only real knock I can come up with involves the chassis. The front 1/3 of the floorpan area on the chassis is open, with the bottom of the interior floor serving as the floorpan in that area. However, the interior floor has no engraved detail or shape in that area; it is just flat except for the tunnel. It makes for quite a contrast with the portion of the floorpan that is molded as part of the chassis. The width of the driveline tunnel doesn't match up well between the two sections either. By the way, this kit looks to be all-nerw tooling, not derived from the '65 kits. --Mark
