Nasty and vulgar? I think ya read into that too much.

I did see your reply to George. Forgive me for my ways, I usually reply in the manner I did to not only address one person but everyone at the same time. (habit of being a forum owner) :D

I see, and I hope you see how easy things can become mixed up in translation on message boards.

I have always thought highly of you for your contributions to this hobby and will continue to do so.

Heck, I wanted to join your forum so I can contribute to your instructions board, I have an old Aurora kit circa. 1963

I wanted to add to your instructions board. Just get kinda lazy with all life has thrown my way in the last year or so.

So no hard feelings, and I put my virtual hand out to shake with you. Your a great guy and I refuse to see you in any other light.

Ron.

Ron, no hard feelings. I do know how things can be taken the wrong way over the internet....so it's rare , very rare that I ever take things personally. Thanks for your kind words, I appreciate it! I can always use more instructions for the site, it does help a lot of people and it's been the biggest project and the most fun and interesting too! Thanks and no worries from this end my friend! :D

What did I miss?

Who got fired?

Yankees won the World Series?

Who's on first...

Seriously, if it works, I'd rather leave it alone.

When I get back from Chicago iHobby I'll think about it some more.

Too much prep going on for that show to think.

Harry, Dinner Thursday night, right?

I know you said MacDonald's was fine, but I got some class: BURGER KING!!!! (sorry for yelling, BOB)

This is just my personal feelings on the off topic subjects. I really don't have a problem with them at all. If the subject in the title doesn't interest me,I don't click on it. It's that simple,if you don't like it,DON'T READ IT!! Every member on this board has a right to post on subjects that interest them. Does it really matter that much if the post is somewhat off topic or completely off topic?? SA's forum used to have an off topic section which they later deleted because of the B.S. that became in involved in it. I thought it was a good move because it came to be a place for members to bash each other and topics were getting locked and deleted,so the forum was better off without it. Gregg has given us a great forum with a lot of freedoms,so let's not force him to have to do the same thing here.

Politics and religion are subjects that I won't even discuss with friends. I would like to keep the ones I do have. :D Those subjects are better left alone than discussed here or elsewhere in my opinion. Everyone has their beliefs one way or the other on both subjects and everyone feels that their beliefs are right. There's no sense in arguing about them.

The last thing this forum needs is "moderators",Gregg and Harry have that job covered already. They've done a great job of it so far and unless they need or ask for help monitoring this board, let's leave well enough alone. I'm sure if they need help, they will ask for it. ;) If they do come to need a moderator,it should be someone they choose that they feel would be good at the job,not someone that simply wants to be the new "sheriff in town".

We are all (or most of us) grown men and women,so let's act like it. If you don't like a particular person or their comments or posts, put them on your ignore user list and you won't be bothered by them anymore. You can also block them from your PM board. I only have one person on my ignore user list and I've found that it's one of the best features on this board. It makes life on here so much easier, so use it, and you won't be bothered anymore. ;)

Ahh yes the ignore feature, I forgot all about that. Thanks for the reminder. I can only assume you are referring to me as the "new sheriff in town" comment? It's all good if it's towards me, but if it is I would like you to know I have no intentions to be a gun fighter 'round these parts. I offered my knowledge to Gregg and told him it's up to him if he wants my help.....not a big deal. I already own 3 forums, web sites and numerous other things to keep me plenty busy. I care enough about the forum and magazine to make extra time and help if needed is all. ;)

Please, NO MORE ALL CAPS!! It's really annoying---as bad as those who can't spell, use proper grammar or punctuation.

Thank you for mentioning that! Yes, it's highly annoying...that photo of the person yelling...that's what all caps looks like from this end!

It's usually internet noobs that resort to that.

There are 23 categories plus 5 under Board statistics here. Each category has who knows how many post under them to look at. I can not understand why, When someone post an off topic post ? That the folks that do not like them are compelled to look at them? Then complain about them. Could some of you explain? Why you are compelled to look at those off topic post in the first place? I for one have learned some information from them. I may have never learned that information any where else except from them.

I probably should not bring this up, but I'm gonna ... regardless of what its other shortcomings may be, the folks who post on the Scale Auto forum seem to do a much better job of staying on topic than they do here...

They don't necessarily do so... but it looks like they do because over there admin drops the hammer immediately! You never get to see the off-topic stuff because they rule with an iron fist. No so much here... we're a little more, uh... "accommodating" of people.

And that's why a topic like this one, debating about how our forum should be run, is allowed to exist here. Because here we want the members to have a forum that they can all be comfortable with, and we encourage suggestions and "opposing" viewpoints that don't necessarily always coincide with the "company line"... ;)

Posted
I'll field that one ... it's because a lot of folks utilize the "View New Posts" feature, which brings up all of the most recent postings — including the O/T flotsam and jetsam — regardless of the subject area under which they've been posted.

Yeah, that's the problem. There's no way to sort out the off-topic posts if you use the forum that way.

Maybe if everyone remembered to begin their off-topic post's title with the words "Off Topic" then those who don't want to look at off-topic stuff will be spared, while those who do like it won't be shut down.

Holy cow... a possible solution that could make everyone happy? Dare I hope???

I don't call Mr. Haught Jim "Nazi" Haught for nothing ;)

That's darn sure the mentality there.

I myself don't care if there is off topic stuff on here. I see it as model club meeting. most meetings our club ever had had afew off topic stuf in it. I usually look at all the posts and some I read if they interest me. On Scale Auto I have been there a few times and just can't enjoy it over there. Seems to me that the people over there think they are better than everybody else. I can count on my fingers how many times I have been on that forum this year. On the other hand I am logged on to this one almost 24 hours a day. I am also on a few other forums and on 25 email lists and this subject comes up alot. One email list enjoys all the off topic stuff because it feels more like a club meeting. That one list does generate a lot of emails. Just this weekend alone that list generated over 200 emails alone. What ever Gregg and Harry decide is alright with me but it seems the forum is more laid back when people have other things to discuss. Msot the list and forum that I am on that restrict off topic stuff are boring and people won't post anything as they are afraid they will get in trouble.

With over 4600 members we're not all going to see eye-to-eye or even remotely get along. It's just human nature, we don't like the way another dresses or talks or even how they type a post. Yes, a post in all caps is deemed to be yelling, having taught email etiquette I can tell you that for sure. Dave, buddy we need to get you another keyboard that doesn't have the CAPS LOCK key stuck.

One of my biggest misgivings of the forum is that topics that no matter how you view them can not even remotely be seen as close to hobby related. These posts are allowed to run on forever, it's almost like there is a fear of stepping in and putting a stop to them for fear that it will adversely impact the magazine. It's unfortunate that the forum is initially entered from the magazines site. Being that is the way most of us found our way here in the first place, the tie between the magazine and the forum can't be separated. It's something of a double-edged sword. There are those who read some of the goings on here on the forum and never pick up the magazine because of what they have seen go on. Yes, the forum does impact the magazine and vice versa. Gregg has allowed us this place to post our builds, questions, concerns etc. But, we as the forum members need to keep in mind this is Gregg's livelihood, not just a place for us to play.

I'm not foolish enough to say "Can't we all just get along?" History of the world has proven that's not likely to ever happen, but, we can make an effort to respect one another, honest it doesn't hurt that much.

After all this computer thing is just like your TV or radio, if you don't like what's going on turn it off or change the channel.

Peace

Ummmm Ron, Who's on first & What's on second, I don't know is on third base!!

:)

Yea Mark your right, I messed that up. And I call myself a Baseball fan? But in my defence, It was late, I was tired, and the Girls gone wild Infomercial was on T.V. The word CENSORED bouncing around the screen has a hypnotic effect on a person.

To me though, it seems that every aspect of modeling already has a sub-forum covering it (models in progress, completed models, new models, tips/tricks, rants/raves, etc.) It really seems like General could be an area for just general discussion, regardless of topic. Heck, I'll even go for the suggestion of "OFF TOPIC" in the title, since there are quite a few thread titles that make you wonder what's actually in the thread. I could see a problem if the off-topicness was spilling over into the other sub-forums, but so far it seems to be staying in General.

i am trying to sound rude as i type this, but all things i post i try to keep "CAR" related! and i think that should be allowed because everyone on here builds cars/trucks/etc!
