REVELL, INC. TO RELEASE MODEL KITS BEARING NHRA LOGO

Kits will feature some of the most well known names in the history of drag racing, including the ‘Hawaiian’ and the ‘Chi-Town Hustler’

ELK GROVE VILLAGE, Ill. (Oct. 22, 2009) — Revell, Inc. and the NHRA announced today that Revell will be introducing nostalgic drag racing model kits in the very near future bearing the NHRA logo.

Revell in the early 1970s started out as a major player in drag racing sponsorships and worked hand-in-hand with the NHRA, and introduced many Funny Cars, Top Fuel dragsters, Pro stockers, and more bearing some of the most well-known names in the history of drag racing.

With the advent of the NHRA Hot Rod Heritage Series and the reunions, Revell will be re-releasing a number of their model kits that will be in concert with the cars that have been a force in the long history of Funny Cars, such as Roland Leong’s “Hawaiian†and the well known Chi-Town Hustler of Farkonas, Coil, & Minick. These cars will be joined by many other of Revell’s most popular drag racing model kits down the road.

Revell will have a booth at some of the upcoming reunions and will display numerous drag racing model kits as well as how a model kit is first designed and tooled. Additional future drag racing releases will be announced at these shows as well. Examples of current kits such as the Stone, Woods & Cook Willys Gasser can be seen at the Wally Parks NHRA Motorsports Museum presented by Automobile Club of Southern California.

“We are excited and look forward to a continued relationship with the NHRA and Revell leading the way to create interest and excitement for the drag racing enthusiast as well as the model kit builder,†said Bob Sutalski, senior vice president of product development, Revell.

“NHRA welcomes the return of Revell and their classic model kits,†said Gary Darcy, senior vice president of sales and marketing, NHRA. “The Revell models were synonymous with the sport of NHRA Drag Racing and reintroducing these classic model kits to today’s fans will reinforce the long and storied history of the sport and its partnership with Revell.â€

Shane, any idea if these are slated to be all new tooling kits or modified re-issues? i know there has been alot of talk about Revell doing some all new tooling drag subjects, are these it?

Dave

Dave from what Ive read it looks to be a mix of both. the Chi Town and Hawaiian cars were announced as new tooling earlier this year but some of the others will surely be reissues....

This opens up a lot of new possibilities, especially if R-M goes beyond Funny Cars into dragsters, Super Stock, Gassers,Fuel Altered, etc. Let's hope this sales strategy takes off and increases sales. There aren't a lot of these kinds of kits still being made.

It will be very interesting to see where they go with this over and above what has already been announced. My wife is already cringing at the thought of how much money I might be spending on models next year.

I'm buying several of each I'm certain. Let's hope Slixx is planning variations.

I heard there was an offset chassis in one of these kits. The driver being off to the side a bit so he can see past the supercharger. One chassis wil be more traditional.

That's a first if it's true. And accurate as well.

Looking forward to this very much indeed.

i have a good question here regarding tires markings. are these kits going to have the correct or respective Firestone or Goodyear tire markings either engraved into the tire sidewalls or as decals?

Dave

More than that Dave, I would love to see the correct size tires in the kit and a lowered chassis on the reissues but That would take a major commitment from Revell. I'll settle for the straight reissue and more than likely smoothed sidewalls and decals on the sheet....

There's whispers on the net that some of these could be 1/16 scale reissues too....

Dave,

They took the Goodyear lettering off the slicks for the Model King Mongoose f/e dragster, so I'm assuming they'll be that way from now on.

Jim Kampmann

You are correct Jim. Even though those arent the same tires that came in the early All Star series funny car kits, they Should be...
