I finally finished this bird up for Detroit. The MPC Plymouth body and interior combined with the AMT '71 Charger chassis and engine. The paint is MCW GA4 light charcoal metallic. The hood is from the '72 RR, so I guess when I do the '72 it will have the air-grabber hood. The side view mirrors are from the Monogram Challenger. I must admit, James Tester held my hand through the modification of the Charger. We both own 1:1 71-74 Plymouths and he has built plenty of the kits. Thanks for looking.

That is one beautiful build, it looks like it could be the Revell/Monogram kit. Very very good job.

Great build, no name, The idea of crossin the 2 kits sure makes for a REALLY NICE end product! Glad you told us where the hood came from, cause MY 71 RR sure didn't come with one. Does anyone pop that hood for a reasonable price?(7.00 bucks for a hood is a little steep for a cheepskate like me!) The color, stance, and wheels make for a BEAUTIFUL factory stock build. I LIKES it!!! :P:lol:

George, the Revell/Monogram Roadrunner kit has that hood, not sure if the GTX kit does tho.

In 1:25th, The MPC '71 GTX and '72 RR had that hood, IIRC. I've seen them offered at a couple resin casters as well. I have the MPC '71 GTX and a couple '71 RRs, and '72 RR to restore, as well as a couple of the yellow late '80s reissue of the '71 RR..I'd like to see that one reissued. AMT announced it a couple times but never reissued it.

Rob, yeah, those are the kits I have(the yellow ones)I'm wantin to build a stock RR and GTX. I'll use the Air Grabber on the GTX but I was lookin for the Vented hood for the RR. I ordered a FLAT 71 hood(I think it came from the OLD MPC stock car RR) and was gonna try to make the vented hood outta it, BUT that idea of useing the R/M hood sounds good too. ANYONE out there got an extra one? I could trade for it, or just buy it too. Any help would sure be appericiated! :P:lol:

BEAUTIFUL!!...wonder how many of the AMT '71 charger kits were RR donors!..I used it to do my '74 RR

Heh-heh...I have a few Chargers for parts..plan to use the chassis, etc under an MPC '71 RR and now I'm thinking about doing a phantom '78 Monaco 4dr R/T 440 six pack, using the Charger innards under the recent DOH Monaco reissue.

For some reason, I can never have too many Mopies.

Thanks for the compliments guys. Real quick note for you all with the 80s re-issue. If you want a white interior, paint those yellow seats with a metalizer first cause that yellow plastic would not go away under even 4 coats of white primer and paint. Glad you all like the stance, I thought it was a bit high in the back, but I will leave it as is.

I like this car. the '71's were a love 'em or hate 'em bodystyle.

having owned a '71 GTX, I like them.

The rear end is actually about the right height.

at least my air shocks carried mine this high at about 110 psi.

This is a sweet, clean build. and I thought it was a monogram '71 Satellite at first glance.

Great Looking Model.

George,

Contact KDog @ Bandit Resins. He casts that hood and a 1971 GTX grille insert.
