jeffb Posted December 2, 2009 Author Posted December 2, 2009 this is where it at today.. gotta stay humpin now that ive shown my hand...the bed is very likely the same as a bronco. them guys over in dearborn were known to get the most out of a stamping.i hope to have this ready very soon.

Two '66 Effies played pretty big roles in my childhood- my dad's '66 F-250 Custom Cab Camper Special (which he drove until he wrecked it in '94), and my Grandfather's F-100 standard cab(he's still got it, though a '91 Ranger is now his primary pickup), which has the same hubcaps found in the new Revell Fairlane reissue of the T-Bolt kit! (They were used on trucks up to '66, in plated and argent silver paint... file that little tidbit away, rep-stockers!) Ed- I believe Twin I Beam actually bowed in '64, the same time the unitized cab/bed bit the dust. I've got that thick James Wagner book on Ford trucks, but I can't find it to back up my hunch. (I hate it when that happens! )

The cab roof was raised in 1964. The wide bed matching the body debuted in 1964. In 1961-1963 the 1960 wide bed was used. The V8 in 1961-1964 was the Y-block (292 or 312) and the 352 was the only V8 available in 1965 and 1966. The twin I-beam set ups from 1965 - 1979 are identical, except for drum/disc brakes. Step-side beds from 1953 through 1967 are identical. I have a 1:1 1966 in my driveway-with a 1961 grille and a 1971 351 Cleveland/FMX BTW. Tracy

Chuck Most Posted December 18, 2009 Posted December 18, 2009 Step beds are the same from '53-'79 They're pretty similar, Nick, but not quite the same! The fenders were the same (more or less)from '53-'79, and so was the tailgate. They all interchange. But the actual bed rails were changed, in the early '70's (not sure exactly which year- '73 or '74) they went to flat (90 degree) bed rails, which replaced the earlier slanted bed rails. Later versions also had the gas tank filler neck in the bed side. This bed design was still used into the mid '80's, but with different fenders on the 1980 and newer models. About the only change you'd need to perform to an AMT '53 or Revell '56 bed to work on this '66 would be the side steps and taillamps. You wouldn't need to add a fuel filler neck, as the '66 still housed it's gas tank in the cab, just behind the seat. And the 'rear' (actually front) bumper, in your Model King/AMT '79 F-350 kit? It's the correct setup for this, as well as any other 1957 through 1977 or '78 Ford Pickup. It's crazy that stuff like this was in production for so long, but the factory Ford Flatbed (like the one in the Lindberg '34 kit) was introduced in 1932 and used well into the '70's with a few tweaks over the years! And I think I mentioned this earlier, but those dog dish caps in the new 'Fairlane' reissue of Revell's T-Bolt kit were still in use on trucks for '66. Gawd... I love old Ford Trucks!
didgeytrucker Posted December 19, 2009 Posted December 19, 2009 In 1973 the bed sides were changed from angular to flat. The overall height was the same, so the vertical side is taller. The rails were made flat so camper shell/toppers could fit easier. The tailgates are also taller. Just ask a real F-100 owner who bought a cheap tailgate, only to find out it was the taller '73-'79 version. The '73-'79 bed sides also have small inner fenders, about three inches deep. The AMT or Monogram (1955) fenders are much more accurate than the Revell fenders. That bed Ford produced in 1932 might look similar to later beds, but it got taller in 1935. The 1940 bed is much different. The 1948 through 1952 beds are almost identical with minor differences in the reveal stampings and the stake pockets. Dimensionally, they are the same. The Revell/Monogram 1948 kit actually has a 1951/1952 style bed. The 1948-1950 bed is closer in appearance to the Monogram 1940 bed. Tracy
