Brizio Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 Last Sunday while I was mowing the lawn, I hat this weird idea... To have a lawn mower in 1/25... I searched on the internet, but nothing interesting... :-/So I started to build it like the "old" lawn mowers, with the opening part on the side instead of in the rear.
george 53 Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 Briz, as crazy as it sounds, maybe when you finish it up you could send it out to someone like Ma's Resins(Alan Raab) to have it cast! It's oddball enuff ta be a good seller!!!
Brizio Posted March 11, 2010 Author Posted March 11, 2010 thats neat and a great start. Will see when it is finished... Maybe he didn't like it... Thanks both!
Modlbldr Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 Nice idea for a dio extra. Looks good so far. Later-
Brizio Posted March 11, 2010 Author Posted March 11, 2010 Thanks!!! On another forum they ask me about the engine... So now I don't know if I'll scratch build a little lawn mower engine or put on it something different... Any suggestion are very welcome!
charlie8575 Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 I think it would be easy enough to make Briggs & Stratton engine out of a piece of balsa for the block/head with a little filing on the head for the cooling fins. The rest of the shape can be carved to form. Look at some old lawnmowers next time for a basic idea of the shape of the block. And yes, if this was cast, I'd consider buying one or two for myself. Brizio Posted March 11, 2010 Author Posted March 11, 2010 HEMI!!!!! Let me think about... I think it would be easy enough to make Briggs & Stratton engine out of a piece of balsa for the block/head with a little filing on the head for the cooling fins. The rest of the shape can be carved to form. Look at some old lawnmowers next time for a basic idea of the shape of the block. And yes, if this was cast, I'd consider buying one or two for myself. Charlie Larkin I found some pics, and the engine looks simple. I need to study it... If I don't change idea with a different propeller... About cast, I should build another one then only for that reason, without glue all the parts together like I did in this one... Thanks for looking!
old-hermit Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 I don't know if I'll scratch build a little lawn mower engine or put on it something different... Any suggestion are very welcome! Go for exotic !!!!!! I built this eighth scale lawn mower using a 1905 International Harvester die cast engine.
Brizio Posted March 11, 2010 Author Posted March 11, 2010 Go for exotic !!!!!! I built this eighth scale lawn mower using a 1905 International Harvester die cast engine. This is very very COOL!!! Ok then, I'll go in a different way... I never changed so many ideas in so short time!
hemithunder Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 Go for exotic !!!!!! I built this eighth scale lawn mower using a 1905 International Harvester die cast engine. How does it work, Old-hermit? Scare the grass into not growing anymore..
Brizio Posted March 11, 2010 Author Posted March 11, 2010 Another pics... The yellow part I used for the building, it is a lid, from the milk pot... Now... If it will have a different engine, with more power, safety should be at the first place... So I made 4 wheels with disc brake! The red thing is the brake caliper, the other level it is for change the high on the lawn mower...
Nick Winter Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 (edited) incase you need reference, I've been rebuilding mowers most of my life, and last summer, rebuilt one for myself, maybe these pictures of my mower with help, it's a early 70's Briggs and Straton That I put a 3HP single cylinder engine in, could use a paint job though, I should really sincranize the wheels oh and the body is a Noma. Railfreak78 Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 I'd buy one too if they ever cast this. Make a landscape truck. Great idea.
hemithunder Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 Brizio, Can you put something in the pic for scale? Gives me an idea.. 283 barstool
diymirage Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 Thanks!!! On another forum they ask me about the engine... So now I don't know if I'll scratch build a little lawn mower engine or put on it something different... Any suggestion are very welcome! how bout one half of a VW bug engine ? you know the aircooled version sure, it would be a little underpowered but its just scale
Brizio Posted March 11, 2010 Author Posted March 11, 2010 (edited) @Dukefan, thank you for the pics! But probably I'll go with a V8 engine... @RailFreak78, This one no, because I will put a V*, I decided so... But If some one is able to cast and produce it, I will be glad to made another one and give to this person. @Hemithunder, I should take new pics soon, but I'm thinking to make it little bigger, probably will fit better under a V8... I measured it and the body is long 1,5in, and wide 1.2. @Diymirage, Good idea, but I don't have VW engine... I'm a Jeep guy!!! Edited March 11, 2010 by Brizio
Brizio Posted March 11, 2010 Author Posted March 11, 2010 That's cool too!!! I shoot some primer and it looks already dry, so probably before the end of the day, I will paint it.
Joe Nunes Posted March 12, 2010 Posted March 12, 2010 old hermit...those are just way too cool!! And, I just get a BIG kick out of that avatar of yours; where did that come from? Joe
Jon Cole Posted March 12, 2010 Posted March 12, 2010 Motorcycle engine from a Hallmark 1/24 ornament? They really aren't that bad.
Brizio Posted March 12, 2010 Author Posted March 12, 2010 Motorcycle engine from a Hallmark 1/24 ornament? They really aren't that bad. I'm going with a V8 engine, a HEMI... I think it is from a 69 Charger, but I'm not sure about that... Tomorrow I will post some new pics of it with the new engine configuration, now it is still in the dryer... I painted it in metallic green... Looks not to bad in this color.
Foxer Posted March 12, 2010 Posted March 12, 2010 This is a neat idea. About the engine, a go kart engine might get it moving. I believe Replicas and Miniatures has one.
