hellonwheelz3 Posted April 19, 2010 Posted April 19, 2010 I have been really getting into model building as of late, and I am curious about something. I understand that this forum (arguably) is the best forum on the net for model cars. What other forums to you guys belong to that is dedicated to building model cars? I haven't really branched into planes or anything like that yet. For now I'm sticking to cars.

The pics here feel like I'm standing there looking at it! I also have seen the admins here are not afraid to post on builds or voice their opinions, the most I've seen with the other guys is what they want you to see in the mag or if you mention the word "buy", they chime in with "Take your business to email"! I also joined the other guy's "scale" treadhead site, but since I don't build much military models, I don't post or go there very often. Gregg has put together a wonderful site here, and even though I post both here and the other guy's site, I have been spending much more time here!

Everyone here knows it's scaleautomag.com. The proprietors of this site have no problem with that, and live in peaceful coexistence with them. Personally, I find this to be the best place for skilled, adult modelers – and for a lot more crazy fun.

Nick Notarangelo Posted April 19, 2010 Posted April 19, 2010 I gave up my scaleautomag id cause this is a much better site all the way around. To me there is no bull, forum trolls, and or favroritisum, just honest to goodness modeling and good people.

I post both here and SA, as I said earlier, and there are a few bad seeds here, too. One look through the "Wanted" thread and you'll see that! You'll learn the bad ones and not trade with them. There are also many good ones on both sites, and I trade on both. As for site preference, I do agree this is the better of the two, the pics are posted much better here and you can see what you're looking at without resizing the image. I notice many screen names that also post to both sites, but some seem to be here more! The features like "Real or Model" and the reference threads makes it fun and educational here, SA has neither, nothing fun there except the community builds thread, which are hard to find here!
Dragline Posted April 19, 2010 Posted April 19, 2010 This is the ONLY site for Automotive modeling. Bob
Railfreak78 Posted April 19, 2010 Posted April 19, 2010 I have checked out some other forums and have found in my opinion that this is the best and easiest to use. I have registered with some others before my comp crashed and I'll go back and find them again. However I almost live here. All the new tips and advise and eye candy I need is here. My other one I talk on is more local so I can talk to club members not on here. Now my question though is since planes were mentioned I'd like to know of good plane forums and model trains. I know it's not the car scene but I have a few older fighters begging for attention and my poor trains are collecting dust. Also I once found one that had a good Hot Wheels forum and I lost that with my old comp. Some help there and all the above would be nice.

Fine Scale Modeler is a good general modelling site with armor, aircraft, autos, ships, sci-fi etc (but no trains to my knowledge). Although it shares the same publisher it doesn't have the same tightly controlled moderation of Scale Auto. Not a very active auto forum but the rest are very good (and we have this place for autos). http://www.finescale.com/ The Air Resources Center (better known as ARC) is a good aircraft specific site. http://www.aircraftresourcecenter.com/

I've been to just about all of them and this one is the most user friendly, and most mature. Some of the best builders in the hobby also hang out here. The mods are also good and will warn you before implementing the IP ban.. I've been on some forums where the ban hammer drops swiftly and without warning......LOL Seriously though, If your into model cars you're in the right place. If your an old school customs builder you should check out the Trak forum. Theres a good bunch of folks over there as well as tons of talent. If you can deal with a message board type of format, you may want to check out Spotlight hobbies....Theres some good builders that are regulars over there, and you can post pics as well. Railfreak78 Posted April 19, 2010 Posted April 19, 2010 Thanks Aaron! I have a bunch of 80's Monogram fighters that I need to somehow figure out slip between my cars

Unfortunately, I had a couple of nice model railroad sites on my computer before the harddrive went bad. I've been trying to see if I can locate them again. If I do, I'll let you know. Ben, and all, one other really great primarily model car board I frequent is The Modeler's Haven. It's a great bunch of people, lots of laughs and some really good builders. Nick Winter Posted April 19, 2010 Posted April 19, 2010 (edited) Well there's my Forum, I try and keep it a quite friendly trouble free place. I don't have many rules, But the ones I do have are well enforced. My Forum TST- The Scale Truckers Edited April 19, 2010 by Dukefan69'

RodBurNeR Posted April 20, 2010 Posted April 20, 2010 welp...not sure if these were posted. I am a member of about 30 forums, but these are the ones I visit daily. Smart-Resins Posted April 20, 2010 Posted April 20, 2010 well, if I am not mistaken, someone asked about other forums, not what kind of drama can be brought up about other forums! If you wish to join some forums without drama as I refuse to let it happen, then visit my two, first one is for all model related stuff, but is geared by the members more for cars. http://kustomcarz.proboards.com/index.cgi The second one, geaed soley for drag related stuff, but is slower as its a new site is http://trackburners.proboards.com/index.cgi? One for mostly drag related that I co own is http://adrenalinedragracing.proboards.com/index.cgi? Then my other favorites are http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/group.php?groupid=105 and http://trakinscale.proboards.com/index.cgi Thanks. Jody
