Railfreak78 Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 This is amazing! This car went from Texas to Alaska non stop. The car has a bathroom, washer, shower, bar, ironing board, sink. The car is plumbed and altered so much it is crazy. While driving they ( a crew in the car) changed the oil and changed flat tires IN MOTION! The trailer is a tank that hauls fuel oil and some other required fluids. The last picture in the series is really bad but it a photo of the film coverage during a running tire change while driving on a street. I know I do not have the talent to do it but what a model idea?!? Enjoy!
Wayne Buck Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 (edited) Wow! That is pretty insane! I like the whiskey tap and the "smoking pipe". LOL Good thing they didn't get pulled over. That woulda ruined their run... Or would they have the officer put on a pair of roller skates? Edited May 10, 2010 by NJ-Wayne
Harry P. Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 Wow! All the comforts of home... tape recorder, stove, ironing board, phone, wet bar... and uh... "smoking device"...
Railfreak78 Posted May 10, 2010 Author Posted May 10, 2010 I noticed that too I would pay money for a copy of the footage though. changing tires in motion and watching the bar make a whisky for the news was great!
Joe Handley Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 (edited) Wow, they did that just to do it....................nice! Gotta love the Hookah too Edited May 10, 2010 by Joe Handley
Railfreak78 Posted May 10, 2010 Author Posted May 10, 2010 Yep No sponsors cool stuff. I was wrong it went from Alaska to Texas/Mexico
Modelmartin Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 I recognize that car from a period magazine article I have somewhere in my Wall O'Mags. I will look for it and try to post it this week. I am amazed it still exists! Very cool. Where is it now?
Foxer Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 There's no doubt that was from the 50's .. it has an ironing board!
Jon Cole Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 How many Hookah hits per mile does it get? And how many "crew" did they go through to figure out how to change a tire on the fly? "I DON'T CARE IF YOU'RE AFRAID OF DYING! GET OUT THERE AND CHANGE THAT TIRE!!!!
David G. Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 When photos of an unusual or unique vehicle are featured on this forum, there's almost always an immediately expressed desire to model it. But not with this one? I have to admit, I find the thought of modeling this engineer's nightmare-mixture of domestic and automotive tech-knowledge-y rather intimidating. At the same time, that thought is more than a little intriguing. Is this Caddy just a little "too out there" even for our group? It's not a challenge, just an observation. I wouldn't challenge anybody to do something I didn't think I, myself could do.

Greg Cullinan Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 No hobby room in there? That 75 grand is like a million today.
Modelmartin Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 (edited) I had that article clipped and in my "weirdness" file! It is from the September 52 Motor Trend. I think there was a Popular Mechanics article on this thing too. The on the move oil change and tire change was explained there. First off it was 'just' a $7,000 car. That story got better in the re-telling!! Actullay, it looks like the non-stop thing wasn't implemented yet. If you want the full size scans PM me with your e-mail and I will send it off to you.
