tuffone20 Posted May 14, 2010 Posted May 14, 2010 So today I'm trying to get my Bullitt Mustang wrapped up for tomorrows meeting and I had a part go MIA on me!! I put the rear view mirror aside the other day because I wanted to BMF it and now I can't find it anywhere!!! I have moved everything on my work area and even had my son come in and look for it and it can't be found anywhere? Don't you just hated it when this happens as I'm sure I'm not alone on this one. Now I'm sitting trying to decide if I should go buy another kit to use the mirror from it and then see if Revell will send me a replacement part? Has anyone gotten them to replace lost parts?
Swany Posted May 14, 2010 Posted May 14, 2010 I feel your pain. I'm almost done with my Bonneville, and part of the windshield wiper goes popping out of my tweezers, and somewhere over by the kitchen sink. Literally across the room... i heard it hit the cookie sheet. RIP, tiny little guy...
JamesW Posted May 14, 2010 Posted May 14, 2010 I've had to get a couple replacement parts from Revell. Smooth as butter. Just use their online order form.

There is an evil black hole that passes through every model area from time to time sucking up parts. Resistance is futile! If the black hole doesn't get it, the carpet monster will! One suggestion you might try. Get out the vacuum and a pair of your wife's old pantie hose. The ones she doesn't want any more. Put the pantie hose over the outlet end of the vacuum and go vacuum the floor. 90% of the time, you will find the part you are missing along with several that you thought were long gone! Worth a try. Yes, but you know the part was moving at terminal velocity and cratered deep into the carpet! Small parts seem to defy the laws of physics when it comes to losing themselves...
Raul_Perez Posted May 14, 2010 Posted May 14, 2010 I've lost enough parts over the years to build a complete model!! With one of the more recent parts that I lost, I had to buy another kit on eBay to get a replacement...and to add to the aggravation, it was on a model that I was building for someone else for free!! Ahhh!!! Sometimes the great modeling gods are evil!! Now where did that little photo etched part I was just working with get off to??? Later,
elan Posted May 14, 2010 Posted May 14, 2010 I misplace more than I lose, can't remember anything anymore. The thrill of getting older.
Howard Cohen Posted May 14, 2010 Posted May 14, 2010 In every book, magazine, online article and live demonstration, people always forget the most important rule of modelling is 'Murphy's Law' always wins The only part you don't have as a spare, the scratch built whatever, the custom painted bit...they all seem to disappear into thin air...can't be that thin, it swallows up model parts I spent about 2 hours today looking for the photoetched 60 Chevy sheet I got at NNL East only to find it stuck to another bag in my detail box. I was sure I had put it in with my 60 Chevy! It's not senility, it's Murphy's Law
1320wayne Posted May 14, 2010 Posted May 14, 2010 Here's one for you. I lost a part some time back, under my workbench in the garage. Two days ago I was cleaning the garage and organizing it for better use of space. I was sweeping the dirt and debris out into the driveway. As I'm getting ready for the next sweep of the broom I look down and there it is, the part that I lost a while back. But, what my eyes saw wasn't quick enough to register in my brain to tell myself to stop the sweeping motion and as luck would have it the part is now somewhere in the front lawn.
Nick Notarangelo Posted May 14, 2010 Posted May 14, 2010 Some way some how I lost a whole engine to my 1972 chebby pick up,I don't know how or where but its not in the kid and I already tore the hobby room up,So I feel your pain.
Madd Trucker Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 I know how you feel I have lost the complete built cab to a Italeri Pete 378
tuffone20 Posted May 15, 2010 Author Posted May 15, 2010 Well I feel better that I'm not alone here... I went to Michaels and picked up a 06 Mustang GT, now here's the kicker for you guys. When I picked up the Bullitt Mustang it was on clearance for $9.95 and I had a 50% off any one item coupon and got the kit for less then $6 bucks!!!! but just to get this dumb part so I could take it to the meeting tomorrow it cost me $18!!
James Flowers Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 (edited) We have all lost a part at one time or the other. I do not think it is right for anyone to expect a model company to replace a part they lost. To me that is abuse of the company. I see you did the right thing a bought another kit. Good for you. MyBradKeselowski Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 I think the Model company's should allow you replacement parts, if you lose them you pay for them, if they are a defect/short, you send them proof and they replace for free

If the black hole doesn't get it, the carpet monster will! I don't have a black hole. I haven an entropy fairy that pays weekly visits to my workbench. They're worse.
weasel Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 if ya find all those 'other' socks, ya know, the 'singles', my guess, you'll find the missing part!! lol
Joe Handley Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 Haven't had that issue in a while, I have managed to misplace a bunch of RC parts in a plastic HTU bag and I can't remember where I put them now that I needed one of them last Sunday:angry:
tuffone20 Posted May 17, 2010 Author Posted May 17, 2010 Well I thought I'd update you guys about my MIA parts problem of late...... I think I found my "Black Hole" Yes a few weeks ago we got a new puppy and he seems to like to lay under my work area and last night I dropped a part and when I went to pick it up and puppy had it!!! But I got it before he did any damage to it.
