Hmmm - May/June?

Checked the Hobby Shop yesterday and it's not in yet - this is the middle of July.

Gregg if you want us to take the magazine seriously how about meeting deadlines and distributing it on the newstands?

Has the May/June issue shipped to the Hobby Shops yet?

Spoke to my LHS, and they have copies in now. B)

We did that two years ago and it worked for a short time until Gregg checked into getting the mag on Borders racks. They like dates on the stuff so the old issues can be returned and the new ones stocked. It was a requirement so the dates on the cover returned after about a half year of just using the issue number.

Nice try.

Only way to get the mag out before the printed month is to put a fire under Gregg. Harry has the layouts fairly current but there are a couple contributors and Gregg who are usually late in getting stuff in. Not likely to change so just accept it as a funky part of the hobby and be happy we have Gregg and MCM!

Did MCM ever make it into the mainstream bookstores? The only place I see it now is in the hobby shops.

You mean always late...

I've tried lighting a fire under Gregg. Many times. Apparently he wears asbestos shorts... ;)

Simple solution to the whole thing: the issue currently on the racks is the "May/June" issue ... in July. Figure in about 30 days, the next issue hits the stands & the mail ... in August. Call it the "September/October" issue and then everybody'll quit bellyaching because it's out before the calendar. Then 30 days later, the "November/December" issue in September. Then 30 days later the "January/February" issue in October. And so on. By this time next year, the issues will be a good year or two early.

(Oh wait. That's what the rest of the magazine industry has been doing for years.)

No July issue? Price of success. The month on the cover is all semantics anyway. The latest issue is the latest issue no matter what you call it.

On another, dissimilar note, I sent in a 2-year Car & Driver subscription order/payment. Two months later, I got a warning notification hyping me to hurry and renew because my sub would be ending soon ... in just 22 months! Yikes, what a racket!

I kinda like the quirky, eccentric island approach.

Why get hot under the collar because the issue sate is a month late? So what?,get over it. It's a subscription, not a contract! lets just be thankfull the magazine is out there at all.

The May/June issue is the first of a year's subscription for me, and immediatley I found it to be a better read than SA.

Both magazines covered the NNL East for instance, and MCM gave it at least 4 pages and better photography - even if one photo was repeated on the same page. Oh well.

The kit reviews are better too, I feel, as the writer covers all aspects of the kits options available, and what to look out for in a way that comes across as if he's not the super detailer builder, but just a schmuck, like me.

No tedious 'letters to the editor' column either, yay!! :)

And lots of new products that SA doesn't cover.

And a trucking section that I'm yet to read.

AND, most importantly, a 'feel good' factor!

It's just a shame that Ken Hamilton doesn't write for MCM, I like his columns in SA.

My SA subscription runs out next April, and that'll be it. No more.

For a 12 month international subscription, I think both magazines are pretty much the same dollar wise, but I feel I'm getting better value with MCM. More issues for a start anyway!

I'm not trying to french kiss the backside of any particular editor who may read this,(ewww - yuck!) I'm just telling it as I see it.

Nope, but putting a barcode and the month back on the cover were steps to getting it into the bookstores. That would double circulation for sure. But.... they want it timely, and....... unfortunately that conflicts with "Island Time". :)

It's called "Island Time", which means that it will get done when he feels like it and no sooner! :D

A good issue. Did the advertising money for the NNL North get refunded to them since the ad for contest was JUNE 6 in the May/June issue delivered in July? If it's late to my door step no biggy, but if I'd paid money for an ad to promote a contest/event and it was missed, I'd be upset.

I hope you never try to run your own business. Being late consistantly will send your customers elswhere.

Neither here nor there, both are good, for diffrent reason.

I like editorial questions.

And lots of new products that SA doesn't cover.

SA's new products is actually bigger.

And a trucking section that I'm yet to read.

AND, most importantly, a 'feel good' factor!

Sorry, I diagree with the let's just be happy we have it sentiment. If you pulled this in the custom cabinetry business, your customers go elsewhere, the same in most ANY buisness. It is VERY unprofessional to be like this. I'm sorry, but if Gregg really cared about his subscribers and the hobby as much as he says, he would take the steps necessary to see MCM is out in a timely manner. I know of NO other magazine that is consistantly late.

Lee,

You've made a VERY good point there.
