matador88 Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 1970 Buick Skylark built from monogram buick gsx kit. came to me in badly crushed box with broken pillars.but junker was in my plans anyway so i dealt with it. it was not easy as body was warped and i realized it during final assembly - front window didnt fit AT ALL. result is the best possible - one pillar plays as broken. hood is only freely put on to catch overall body shape - its gonna be open. during taking pictures i realised i completely forgot to paint side reflective lights - i will do that but pics are done for now. its not an easy task for me to take pictures of weathered models due to fine shades and subtle effects as my camera is not an dslr, but i`m trying. this time its not so bad, but eyes are eyes.. hope you enjoy, comments (positive :> ) are welcomed
diymirage Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 it looks like a piece but that was the point right ? nice weathering i especially like the under hood area, looks very authentic
edward smith Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 Looks old alright, nice weathering work man.
Monty Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 This is a pic of my first car, a '72 Slylark. I still think they're great looking cars, and I wish I could have it back. It's always nice to see one done in scale, but almost all are done as pristine GSX models, so yours is kind of a refreshing change (although I'd cringe if I saw a real one in that condition). Excellent job on your weathering. I wouldn't mind seeing a mini tutorial on how you did that, especially the chassis.
Jon Cole Posted August 14, 2010 Posted August 14, 2010 I have seen cars done like that! Chrome is shot, so they spray can the bumpers flat black... and always chips off a little. That looks true!
charlie8575 Posted August 14, 2010 Posted August 14, 2010 Very convincing job. Well-done weathering. This looks like any well-used car you'd see in New England. Charlie Larkin
Chuck Most Posted August 14, 2010 Posted August 14, 2010 You don't see this kit done as a beater too often...heck, I think this is the first I've seen personally. Great job!
Monte's Motors Posted August 14, 2010 Posted August 14, 2010 Looks great! I would says by condition, that's it's still driveable. I see too many weathering job overdone. Yours is great!
David G. Posted August 14, 2010 Posted August 14, 2010 Great work, especially the bottom, rear bumper and engine bay. Subtle shade and tone variations within a particular color pallet are the key to convincing weathering, and you've nailed it!
Guest Posted August 15, 2010 Posted August 15, 2010 First time I've seen this kit built as a beater. Very well done.
