gasman Posted August 21, 2010 Posted August 21, 2010 (edited) Revell's new Corvette ZR1 kit is out. Its based on the regular Revell C6/Z06 kit with a lot of newly tooled parts. The body is new and very well done. very crisp details. some of the parts from the C6 kit is still in the box, like the exhaust and 2005 only steering wheel. i'm guessing its cheaper to keep those parts in rather then retooling it without it. The interior gets a nice update. with the correct steering. they also retooled the dash to have with the Navigation system. The engine block is the same from the C6 kit, but everything else is new. like the 4 piece super charger. then we come to the tires. which to my surprise are NOT the same ones from the other C6 kits, they appear to be completely new. the wheels are extremely well done. but the plating is a little heavy on them. stripping the chrome, and repainting with Alclad should really make them pop. they are a but small to my eye. but are still very well done. only issue I see is that Revell did'nt include any decals for the Carbon Fiber roof. not a huge issue since i'll use some SMS Carbon Fiber anyway. a+ from Revell with this one. its a winner. crispy Posted August 21, 2010 Posted August 21, 2010 Terry can you take pictures of the it innards? Kind of a shame they went ahead without carbon fiber for the casual modeler. I have plenty of CF on hand that it shouldn't be problem here either. Looking forward to this kit as well. Chris
gasman Posted August 21, 2010 Author Posted August 21, 2010 here's some shots.... The Body Parts Layout, remember there are extra parts from the regular C6 kit notice they fixed the under hood area. the ZR1's battery is in the trunk. and Revell corrected that, which was incorrect in the Z06 kit, Chrome and the new Tires.
jeffs396 Posted August 21, 2010 Posted August 21, 2010 Thanks for posting! I can see this kit being a donor for other projects, especially the wheels/tires!
Len Woodruff Posted August 22, 2010 Posted August 22, 2010 (edited) Thanks for the post. I am anxiously awaiting mine. But it is too hot to paint. Edited August 22, 2010 by Len Woodruff
Chuck Kourouklis Posted August 22, 2010 Posted August 22, 2010 Yup, not only is the rubber new, it scales out to about the right size from the rough measurements I took, and it's got a reasonable representation of the proper Michelin tread pattern! Which means that it looks like you can mix 'n match a Z06 Carbon if you want to. You'll have to blend in the clear hood panel and paint it, and the quickest body mod seems to be to use the ZR1 body shell with the Z06 front-quarter scoops grafted in place. Of course, going to those lengths is probably the best way to guarantee Revell will come out with its own kit...
MyBradKeselowski Posted August 22, 2010 Posted August 22, 2010 (edited) Thanks for the pics, I like what I see and can't wait to get one. I like the tires, as it looks like they maybe tooled up some new tires... Edited August 22, 2010 by kaseykahne09
crispy Posted August 22, 2010 Posted August 22, 2010 Thanks Terry! I might be able to pick one up tomorrow at the RPP Hobby Shop about an hour away. Hitting a car show near there so it's a 2 fer 1 for me! LOL Chris
Len Woodruff Posted August 22, 2010 Posted August 22, 2010 I guess I have been asleep on the Z06 Carbon. Got any pics? Could we combine these for the current GT2 car?
crispy Posted August 22, 2010 Posted August 22, 2010 I guess I have been asleep on the Z06 Carbon. Got any pics? Could we combine these for the current GT2 car? I think there would be much work involved for the GT2 car, but would think the Builders kit from Scale Motorsport would probably help with some pieces. Here's the Carbon Len: Chris
Len Woodruff Posted August 22, 2010 Posted August 22, 2010 Thanks so much Chris. I may have to build this one too!
george 53 Posted August 22, 2010 Posted August 22, 2010 Oh YEAH, I KNOW Ish is gonna be REAL happy about THIS!!!!
LOBBS Posted August 23, 2010 Posted August 23, 2010 Looks like I'll have to get a couple now as some of the new parts (insert with the dry sump, tires) will make it a lot easier to do a proper Z06 also.
Gray Smith Posted August 26, 2010 Posted August 26, 2010 Stopped by the local hobbytown to get a can of pactras color change paint, and this was there..it said "buy me" and so I did...very pleased with it, except for the tires and wheels..but i'm not going to use those anyway..i'm building a replica of my favorite car in Forza 3 that's Cyber Gray with a blue pearl coat over it, gran sport stripes, and the hero car hood stripes(doubtful those will make the cut)and Advan wheels...also nice to know they fixed the dry sump issue This is the first revell Vette i've picked up since the first C5's came out years ago..and I never did build those... Gray
crispy Posted August 26, 2010 Posted August 26, 2010 Len, If I'm not mistaken there was one or two Corvette's built for some Iraq/Afghanistan veterans. They put the stripes on them and called them Hero stripes. This is off the top of my head and may not be totally correct, but pretty sure it's at least related somehow. Chris
voljeepx Posted August 26, 2010 Posted August 26, 2010 Thanks for the pics! I have been waiting for this kit and have two saved for me at Hobby Town! It's nice to see Revell getting the details right lately.
voljeepx Posted August 26, 2010 Posted August 26, 2010 Why do the call them "Hero" hood stripes? The "Hero Edition" Vette was a one-off black and red striped ZR-1 that was raffled off for a childrens charity. If you won, you also got a '67 Vette in matching colors. Very cool!
robertw Posted August 26, 2010 Posted August 26, 2010 Finally!!!!!! I've been waiting a long time for this one to come out. Time to hunt down a few. rob
Len Woodruff Posted August 27, 2010 Posted August 27, 2010 Thanks Ed. I must have missed that. I know I should keep up better but I know more about the C3's 68-82 since I have a 78 Silver Anniversery in the garage for the last 29 years.
Len Woodruff Posted August 29, 2010 Posted August 29, 2010 (edited) Does anybody know the correct "weave" for the new Corvette ZR1 since it is not on the decal sheet? Edited August 29, 2010 by Len Woodruff
ScaleCentral Posted August 29, 2010 Posted August 29, 2010 That appears to be a twill weave. I would either use Studio27's full color Cartograf or SMS's 3D transparent (you can paint the black then). Nic
Luc Janssens Posted August 30, 2010 Posted August 30, 2010 "only issue I see is that Revell did'nt include any decals for the Carbon Fiber roof. not a huge issue since i'll use some SMS Carbon Fiber anyway" For the European modelers who are reading this tread, the Revell Germany version of this kit, does include the carbon fiber decals! Thx Luc
crispy Posted August 30, 2010 Posted August 30, 2010 For the European modelers who are reading this tread, the Revell Germany version of this kit, does include the carbon fiber decals! Thx Luc Luc, Seriously? WOW. That's disappointing that the US version wouldn't get them. Not that I'd use them, but doing a template would have been easier. Thanks for the update. Chris
Len Woodruff Posted August 30, 2010 Posted August 30, 2010 That is truly weird especially since the ROG ZR1 is almost twice the price of the US Version. Maybe they get better plastic?
