sjordan2 Posted September 15, 2010 Posted September 15, 2010 Anyone know of any good stuff to do there?...my wife doesn't like it but I looked up hobby shops lol. Any museums up that way that would be for the both of us? Pigeon Forge, as you may know, is the home of Dolly Parton's Dollywood, which is a very good and very clean amusement park. You may want to check to see who's performing while you're here, not only at Dollywood but many other music venues in the area – it's sort of like a mini Branson, Mo. Pigeon Forge is nearby to Gatlinburg and and Sevierville, all at the foot of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, which is the most-visited park in the nation. In Gatlinburg, you can visit the Hollywood Star Cars museum, with some cars you'd never expect to see here; info here: http://www.starcarstn.com/
Kaleb Posted September 15, 2010 Author Posted September 15, 2010 Yea I knew about dollywood, were going to get tickets since we have Silver dollar city passes we get a discount. We are thinking about white water rafting and horseback riding. And got passes to the ripley's stuff.
sjordan2 Posted September 15, 2010 Posted September 15, 2010 Is that near the Moonshiner's Museum? Could be. This is part of the trail of the original Thunder Road, that eventually runs just a few blocks from my apartment in Knoxville – home of the late, great Popcorn Sutton, the modern era's most famous moonshiner, who committed suicide last summer rather than face prosecution. ("Popcorn Sutton done been lawed.") http://www.mitchellspublications.com/ur/nc/suttonp/ Anyway, Gatlinburg also has a terrific Ripley's Aquarium, a great saltwater facility.
vizio93 Posted September 15, 2010 Posted September 15, 2010 Either the Aquarium or the Titanic museum. The Titanic museum is really really cool. I might even go again to see all the stuff I missed.
Mr. Moparman Posted September 15, 2010 Posted September 15, 2010 R.M.S Titanic Museam is the place to go
Kaleb Posted September 15, 2010 Author Posted September 15, 2010 Got the tickets to Titanic for $46 for the both of us, Paid a little over a hundred for the both of us to do 5 things with the Ripley's.
mikemodeler Posted September 15, 2010 Posted September 15, 2010 I do believe that Floyd Garrett's Muscle Car Musuem is near there as well.It costs a few bucks to get in but if you bring a camera you will probably get some great pictures to use later for inspiration. There are a ton of things to do in the area, just depends on what your interests are.
1320wayne Posted September 15, 2010 Posted September 15, 2010 Lots of good things to do and visit between Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg. If you are looking for something else to do you can always travel Southeast out of Gatlinburg and go up and over the Smokey Mountains and drop down into Cherokee NC (about 35 miles). This is an indian reservation with other things to do as well as a Harrah's casino. Plus, the scenery over the mountains is perfect and I would imagine that it's great in October.
Jason Vandergriff Posted September 16, 2010 Posted September 16, 2010 Was up there about a month ago. There is a ton of things to do from karts to museums and shows. Dollywood is a nice little park and extremely clean. Ripleys is cool as well. Haven't gotten to check out the rms titanic yet though. Might stop back through for the rod run while im on my way home from Bowling Green Ky this weekend.
camaroman Posted September 16, 2010 Posted September 16, 2010 I'll second the nod on Floyd Garrett's MMM well worth the price...
crazyjim Posted September 16, 2010 Posted September 16, 2010 I think the F-100 Nationals are held at Pigeon Forge, PA but I don't know when.
Kaleb Posted September 16, 2010 Author Posted September 16, 2010 Jason how is Chatt town? Ive heard it has gone down hill in the past few years? I wanted to take my wife to the Train restaurant if they still have it. We may try out the Reservation and a few other things. Now if I can talk my wife into letting me go to Hobby Shops and the Muscle car museum lol.
sjordan2 Posted September 16, 2010 Posted September 16, 2010 I love Chattanooga, but I absolutely do not recommend anything to do with the Chattanooga Choo-Choo hotel and restaurant. Very seedy. For those whose interests lie in the following direction, there is an antique tow truck museum. The Chattanooga Aquarium, however, is world-class. It serves as an excellent freshwater complement to the saltwater Ripley's Aquarium in Gatlinburg. Wonderful restaurants in the area, plus a great Discovery Center for kids next door to a 3D IMAX theater and across the street from a mulitcinema, and the Arts District across the bridge is good.
DRG Posted September 16, 2010 Posted September 16, 2010 My wife and I went there about five years ago. Great shops and good prices. But the food, oh ya the food.
Kaleb Posted September 16, 2010 Author Posted September 16, 2010 I havent been to chattanooga in at least 7 to 8 years so im sure a lot has changed. I loved it when I was there, I went to visit friends and one girl won the chance to win tickets to a concert. I say won the chance to because we had to go to the radio station to compete against more people. It ended up being a competition for girls and she wasnt old enough to compete so I got to step in and we won lol...I wont go into details other than we had a limo ride to and from the concert in Atl plus red lobster.

Give the wife some spending money for one of the many arts & crafts stores and she can't complain about you hitting the hobby shop.
mountaindewd Posted September 17, 2010 Posted September 17, 2010 Pigeon Forge, just drive down the main strip, Scenic Parkway/US441. There is plenty to do. Gatlinburg, I would suggest finding a parking spot at one end of the main strip, Scenic Parkway(same road) near Hard Rock Cafe and walk down one side as far as you want and back up the other. It will take a while with the shopping and site seeing. There is also a Ripley's Believe It or Not museum in addition to the Ripley's Aquarium. Whenever visiting an unfamiliar place, look for the area Chamber of Commerce. they are stocked with info on area attractions, events, etc. http://www.gatlinburg.com/default.asp http://www.pigeonforgechamber.com/
DrewCfromSC Posted September 17, 2010 Posted September 17, 2010 I really like Floyd Garretts museum. Ive been a couple of times and seems like both times Floyd greeted us at the door and gave a private tour. But thats when I had my 61 Belair 409 and he liked it! Like motorcycles at all? Check out the Wheels through time museum in Maggie Valley N.C. its a really grat place ................if ya like bikes. Drew C. from S.C.
Kaleb Posted September 17, 2010 Author Posted September 17, 2010 I think I have her talked into at least one hobby shop and the muscle car museum.
Bridgebuster Posted September 17, 2010 Posted September 17, 2010 Anyone know of any good stuff to do there?...my wife doesn't like it but I looked up hobby shops lol. Any museums up that way that would be for the both of us? Too bad you're not going on a motorcycle (my other obsession). TONS of beautiful roads to tour. Go through Gatlinburg and check out Cade's Cove. My wife LOVED the shopping. They've got a humongous outlet complex just west of Pigeon Forge in Sevierville. Gotta do the tourist thing and ride the chair lift (it really is enjoyable) in Gatlinburg. TONS of great places to eat between the 3 cities. Check out the Pancake Pantry (I think that's what it's called) in Gatlinburg. It's a "must do" for me when I make it up that way. Enjoy
