Jon Cole Posted September 16, 2010 Posted September 16, 2010 As a card carrying Pack Rat, I tend to save most every box. I even cut up and save the sprue!
tabsscale1 Posted September 17, 2010 Posted September 17, 2010 Well since I have over 2000 unbuilt models I still have the boxes with the kits inside. Only ones I do keep are tyhe vintage ones i hae bought. Then the whole box is folded up and put in a tub. The newr ones getthrown away if i have more than one of them will save the box from the last one i build of the kit.
oldscool Posted September 17, 2010 Posted September 17, 2010 I save the box tops from the ones that have really good box art. I don't have much storage space as it is. Heck, I'm having to stack my built ones in plastic display cases to have enough room on the shelves. It does keep them from getting dusty though. oldscool
MyBradKeselowski Posted September 17, 2010 Posted September 17, 2010 I was just thinking that they fold down, so why couldnt they be save them like that? I'm sure a lot could be kept in a plactic storage tub. They do, thats how I save them...
Pete J. Posted September 17, 2010 Posted September 17, 2010 Several years ago I started a "trophy" wall. I cut the top of the box out, write the date I completed them model and nail it to the wall of my work shop. It kind of brightens up the place and reminds me how long it has been since I actually completed something.
jbwelda Posted September 17, 2010 Posted September 17, 2010 i fold up my boxes with the instrux inside and any spare parts thrown into the parts bin, then i stack them on the shelf. dont take up much room and too cool to chuck in the trash.
crazyjim Posted September 17, 2010 Posted September 17, 2010 Brad - if you need help with the sorting when you're in FLA, just let me know. I have experience with sorting huge lots of model kits.
Guest Johnny Posted September 17, 2010 Posted September 17, 2010 I let al the instruction sheets go with the boxes too! I wish now I would have kept all the 60's and 70's boxes especially the psyadelic boxes! My favorite two were the 70 Cuda and Rebel Machine boxs!
B_rad88 Posted September 17, 2010 Posted September 17, 2010 Brad - if you need help with the sorting when you're in FLA, just let me know. I have experience with sorting huge lots of model kits. LOL me too jim, we helped lyn out last year, lol. and i "TRY"(key word here is try!) to keep my boxes, for either parts box, cool box art, storage boxes, or also to use as shipping boxes! i have gotten some kits/parts/ect. like that, i find it cool to get a model kit box in the mail like that instead of the normal brown package, lol., but like right now, my extra kit boxes i have are holding junkyard/builts/parts.
Dingo Posted September 21, 2010 Posted September 21, 2010 You could say I keep part of the box, that is I cut the box up into little pieces and get rid of all but the top of the box which goes on the wall of my den. Pictures below to show what I mean. I am fast running out of room on the walls and may have to go into the passage way to continue which means pulling down the gun posters a thing I don't want to do. The Modeling Hermit Posted September 21, 2010 Posted September 21, 2010 Those that are cool, I display. The others I collapse and put in a storage box. They come in handy if one is moving or remodeling.
voljeepx Posted September 21, 2010 Posted September 21, 2010 As cool as some are, I just don't have the room. When the man cave is completed there will hardly be any room on the walls with the built kits I have, let alone boxes!
Hattley Posted September 21, 2010 Author Posted September 21, 2010 That's cool, I would have to take down some old Kiss posters... I'm sure my wife wouldn't object. HA! Eric Stone Posted September 21, 2010 Posted September 21, 2010 I'm assuming you mean from kits after they are built? If that's the case, of course. They make handy parts boxes and also come in handy for poor orphan kits that have no box. I've had a few of those old AMT 3 kit combos that I downsided into a single kit box to save some room and eliminate those huge boxes they came in in the first place. I also reuse the boxes for storing old built ups in. I simply take a small label, a 1 1/2 inch by 2 3/4 inch that you find in the office supply section of Walmart, and write what is now going to live in the recycled box. That why I don't have to spend two hours trying to find something! Exactly what he said, except I don't use labels, I use blue tape and a Sharpie...
curt raitz Posted September 21, 2010 Posted September 21, 2010 I chuck the odd shaped boxes i.e. Tamiya, Hasegawa, Revell of Germany, etc., keep the Revell, AMT boxes...they be the right size for putting built models in for shipping after selling them online I only keep a few of my built models (special interest or one of a kind builds) I enjoy the building process...when finished - so is the relationship with the model strangely...I save the instructions, got a box full of'em, occasionally will dig one out for some reason or another
MoparWoman Jamie Posted September 21, 2010 Posted September 21, 2010 I keep some boxes, but like other members said on here and it's like I also do. If I have more then one of the kit I only keep one box and the others either becomes part boxes or get's thrown out. I do also keep the trees to make things from, from time to time.
highway Posted September 21, 2010 Posted September 21, 2010 Exactly what he said, except I don't use labels, I use blue tape and a Sharpie... Eric, I used to just use a black Sharpie and write on the box, but my neatness OCD kicked in!
Junkman Posted September 23, 2010 Posted September 23, 2010 The boxes I toss. But if there are little glue tubes included, like in many old Japanese kits, I keep those and put them into my vintage glue museum.
Hattley Posted September 23, 2010 Author Posted September 23, 2010 You should post some photos! The boxes I toss. But if there are little glue tubes included, like in many old Japanese kits, I keep those and put them into my vintage glue museum.
Junkman Posted September 23, 2010 Posted September 23, 2010 You should post some photos! I once started a thread on it: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=30395&st=0&p=299223&fromsearch=1&#entry299223 Wasn't overly popular.
