camarobuilder Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 (edited) i started working on this quite a while ago, and have just now got back to it. It represents my take on an all out Pro Street 2010 Camaro. I started with an AMT body, and a Ross Gibson "Sonny's hemi Chevy". I scratch built a square tube chassis with RB Motion working 4-link, and scratchbult front struts. The interior has real aluminum panels, and carbon fiber decals. The scratchbuilt cage and chassis will be painted HOK Pavo Purple with a Tamiya silver exterior with custom Keith Marks purple stripes. The motor plate was scratchbuilt. I used the Gibson jesel belt pulleys with Auto Dynamics crank trigger wheel. Modified Pro Tech distributor. The CSR water pump is from a die cast pro stock car Edited October 13, 2010 by camarobuilder

camarobuilder Posted October 13, 2010 Author Posted October 13, 2010 That looks awesome! Where did the wheels come from? They're Machined Aluminum Specialties. I'm trying to locate a set of centers because one of these gor ruined. MAS stopped taking online orders in 2003
camarobuilder Posted October 13, 2010 Author Posted October 13, 2010 Completely scratch built Moroso oil pan. MAS wheel set with "warrior" centers

camarobuilder Posted October 13, 2010 Author Posted October 13, 2010 nice work.really nice terrykinnearjr@embarqmail.com Write Terry who is the new proprietor of MAS and I'm sure you can get your parts from him... Sent him an e-mail. Haven't got a reponse yet. I've got quite a bit of MAS stuff, and I've used alot in the past. Their parts are some of the best. I'd like to see them get back to where they once were. As a matter of fact, I just ordered some of their stuff from Scale Dreams. Frank

camarobuilder Posted October 13, 2010 Author Posted October 13, 2010 (edited) You sure do some FANTASTIC work!.........look`s GREAT!!!!! Thanks, John. It usually takes me a while to get the stuff done because I try to get them as close to perfect as my abilities allow. i've got a folder full of referance material for the engine stuff...LOL I'm definitely my worst critic, though... You can check out some of my other work on my webshots page, if you'd like. http://rides.webshots.com/album/560840801DvDYOc?start=0 Edited October 13, 2010 by camarobuilder
hOLMS Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 Screaming hot!!! This WIP 5th gen is so far, so great... ps.....found this info in May this year, so this may be old news to you (since your name is camarobuilder).......apparently (and much anticipated for many) this body style has been in the design phase for the 2011 NHRA pro-stockers, below is the link. Have not seen any updates since then. They need this body style doing at least 210mph in the 1320!!! http://www.competiti...o-stock-in-2011

crowe-t Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 (edited) Beautiful work on the chassis! I can't wait to see paint on the body. Edited October 13, 2010 by crowe-t
glenn Posted October 15, 2010 Posted October 15, 2010 how did you form your trans tunnel? I have tried a few times now but can't get it as smooth as your one.
camarobuilder Posted October 15, 2010 Author Posted October 15, 2010 how did you form your trans tunnel? I have tried a few times now but can't get it as smooth as your one. I made a wooden "buck" for the transmission hump, and used a piece of round rod to form the driveshaft section. It took quite a few attempts to get it right. Frank
shucky Posted October 15, 2010 Posted October 15, 2010 Frank nice job so far! It all looks great man, keep up the good work. Cant wait to see more.
camarobuilder Posted October 17, 2010 Author Posted October 17, 2010 (edited) Started back to the intake and carburetors. The RGE kit runners are too long and have plates at the top. If you check pictures of the Sonny's Hemi, you'll notice the runners are short. The RGE plenum needs some modifications, too. Most of that was done with sanding sticks. The top plate and carb plates were scratch built. The RGE kit uses split Dominators, but I wanted a more street friendly set of Pro Tech Resin Demons. I wasn't sure if I was going to do square mount or canted mount. I eventually decided on square mount. Remember, nothing in these photos is glued yet, so you'll notice some ill fitting stuff. These are just mock up pictures to check fit and to get the heigth correct. They will have CORRECT appearing linkage, and plumbing comprised of ProTech braided hose and RB Motion hose ends with a Pro Tech resin junction block runners too long carb plate with mounting pads with resin Pro Tech Demons You can see how short the runners are here... camarobuilder Posted October 18, 2010 Author Posted October 18, 2010 I wanted to share this tip with everyone. I wanted to make a realistic looking linkage for this model. I bought every photoetched linkage kit out there. The problem with photoetch is, it's too thin to look realistic. While ordering some other stuff from Pro Tech, I ran across something in their railroad section. They're scale "Eye Bolts". They make a great looking 1/25 rod end for linkage detail.
camarobuilder Posted October 29, 2010 Author Posted October 29, 2010 (edited) More thought than actual plastic work here...LOL The linkage is done but not in these pictures yet. I think I'm going to redo the manifold top plate. The carb pads look too big. Paint is tamiya gloss aluminum. The resin Pro Tech Demons are painted with Spaz Stix here. I've got the actual set going to Chrome Tech to be plated. An actual BG Demon carb. I didn't want to go with the typical Holley gold color. Frank Edited October 29, 2010 by camarobuilder

camarobuilder Posted November 2, 2010 Author Posted November 2, 2010 (edited) Very heavily modified RG intake manifold The top and carb plate are scratch built. I used a piece of tan carboard between the top and carb plate to simulate the wooden insulator I've seen on most Sonny's engines. I'm working on the linkage arms now. I got my order of hose fittings and rod ends from RB Motion today. Frank Edited November 2, 2010 by camarobuilder

crowe-t Posted November 3, 2010 Posted November 3, 2010 Frank, Excellent job on the intake and carbs. Are those the carbs you sent out for chrome plating?
