Well, my young friend...I vote for 29 Palms. That way you can attend the NNL West show each year.

Either way, I'm sure you'll do what's best for your family.

I dont know what I want to do. I have been to 29 palms many times. Never been to Virginia.I just dont know yet. I have a few days to decide. I may lean towards Virginia. I am sure that I will be on the west coast in the future Raul.

I too vote for Virginia Beach. Of course being my city of birth, I might be biased.

The overall Tidewater (or Hampton Roads) area is the 15th largest metro area in the U.S., so there's plenty to see and do across the area. Plus as Ed mentioned it's 60-75 miles to Richmond (depending on where you land).

Unless it's closed down, there is also a model club down there in VaB, in addition to the guys up in Richmond.

Clay, I was stationed in Norfolk for 3 years and was constantly down in the 'Beach. TAMS has their meetings (used to anyway) at the Va.Beach Library and there is (was, but I think he still works there part-time) an EXTREMELY knowledgable gentleman named Joe Miles who works at the Va.Beach Hobbytown USA.

Sorry to hear you are moving soon, I had hoped to get down that way and try to meet you. My son is going to Parris Island next summer with his JROTC program from high school.

I would go with Va. Beach as it is a nice area and as was mentioned, there is a model club and a decent Hobbytown USA nearby. A great area and tons of stuff to do. Of course there is a ton of stuff near Twentynine Palms, so the question becomes if you want to shake and bake in the desert or be oceanside?

Good luck with the move and hope all goes well.

Well I picked Virgina Beach. I promise that I will be on the West Coast again eventually Raul. I chose it because it is something new aside from swamp and desert, now its time for the beach. Next I hope for mountains.

I will let you guys know when I found everything out.

Are you going to NAS Oceana or to NOB Norfolk area? I know there is a Marine Detachment Base just down the street from NOB Norfolk on International Terminal Drive (across from the Railroad gates of N.I.T).

I'm just glad there is a hobby shop in town. It sucks driving 30 to 45 minutes to an hour just to get some paint.

SSGT Clay, I was stationed at Ft. Story Va. back in 67 for Viet Nam training. All sand and swomp. We were 2 miles from the beach and I had a weekend off from duty and stayed at a motel and slept most of the time. We needed rest from all the training we went thru. I think you'll like it there. It gets hot there though in the summer time. Take care and thank you for your service. Dan

I've vacation in Virginia and Virginia beach in the past and it's a nice area. My whole family enjoyed it as well as myself.

Sounds good, Clay. I'm sure the beach is more appealing than the desert ;)

We'll see you the next time you're out this way.

Take care,

If you are going to N.O.B Norfolk, just inside gate 3 (or is it 3A) to the left is what looks to be a powerplant. Just before you get to it is a bowling alley. Sandwiched in between is a gas station and the MWR Hobby shop (it was still there in 2004 when I went for a visit anyway). It was well stocked and they had catalogs and were willing to order if they didn't have it.

Good choice, Clay. 29 Stumps is desert and there's Marines all over the place. Semper Fi.

I thought it was a spectacular place except for the jarheads. B)

Semper Fi bro, we'll get you out here soon enough.

I was in Virginia this weekend. We went to Busch Gardens.it was in Williamsburg which is pretty close to Richmond. It is nice around there. I noticed the cost of living is reasonable as well.
