Looks like I

ll be walking down the hill to check mail rather than waiting for wife to get on way home from work. B)

I just bought the JANUARY 2011 issue of Rod & Custom from the newsstand yesterday. Sheeeesh! If they combined forces with MCM we could have Model Car Rod & Custom Magazine's November issue in November.:lol:

But, that wouldn't be any fun at all, would it? B)

I always wondered why some magazines are 2 or 3 months ahead of time. Is it really necessary to have the January 2011 issue in October 2010?

I guess they must use a mirror image of the same production schedule Gregg uses! B)

No kidding. Personally, I think it's ridiculous to date a publication that far in advance. I certainly like it less than ...

Well, anyway, some degree of compromise between the two would probably be best.

Personally, I think the real answer for MCM is to just go by the numbers (Issue 151, Issue 152, Issue 153) and sell 9 issues per year regardless of "month." It would perhaps be less of 'a poke in the eye' of calendar-watchers. In fact, go on a strict schedule of a numeric issue every 5 weeks and drop the month reference. That would produce 10 issues a year and it wouldn't matter what month it is when it arrives. That would be way cooler than trying to crank out the Aug/Sept before the Oct issue or the Nov issue when it's already virtually November. That's just old-fashioned, in-the-box thinking, methinks.

Besides, even when MCM was on a 'catch-up' schedule in the past, there were those who complained about getting issues 3 weeks apart instead of a month apart!

I don't need a magazine cover to tell me what month it is, I have calendars and newspapers and recurring bills to do that for me. I just want that great MCM content whenever it shows up. Of course, I'd like it to be a little more consistent, but I can live with it as it is.

OK. Now that I've provided unsolicited magazine-publishing-industry consultation services and business advice, I'll go back to watching old episodes of Highway Patrol now.

2150 out.

It's arrived in Central Michigan... I'm sure if it's made it THIS far, pretty much anyone reading this post in the continental US either already has it, or will have it shortly.

Chris - if my issue doesn't show up next week sometime, could you send me your copy? I'd send yours back when mine came.

Only if you send me some South Florida weather. The high today hit 37 and the low will be 20 something.

Now I see why they call you crazy Jim!

I think they should fire that bum, plain and simple

HE is the reason the mag is always behind and late.

No excuses.

Everyone is tired of waiting for the mag, it's always late, it's always ripped up, and it's always full of nothing but model car stuff....

Depends on the publication schedule. I read that the date shown on a magazine, (say January 2011), is the date it's supposed to be removed from the sales rack as the next issue comes out.

According to that logic the January 2011 issue, already on the stands, would have to be removed in January 2011 to make way for the next issue, so the "current" issue (January 2011) will be sitting on the stands for the next 2+ months? Doesn't make sense.

That depends Harry. If it's on a bi-monthly schedule, & it's supposed to hit the stands in November, (which is almost upon us), & be replaced with the next issue in January, then it is logical.

Anyway, that what I read years ago in Stock Car Racing magazine, in their letters section, when a letter was published asking the same question, & I guess they would have known if anyone did. ;)

Yeah, for a bi-monthly mag that makes sense, but not for a monthly. I got my Hemmings Classic Car December issue the other day... most monthly mags arrive to subscribers about a month before the cover date.

But that doesn't solve our problem... ;)

Yeah, but if they fire the bum, who'll stop the rain?

Whoa, Chris. We were sunny and 85/55 with no snow predicted. We have the pool heated to 89. Life is good and maybe I'm not as crazy as I thought.

Actually, Gregg, it LOOKS like ya gotta COUPLA screws loose!!! Gotta agree with Mark though, we've KNOWN that for a long time now! Heck, I've paid my subscription, so i KNOW it'll be comin, so i'll read it when it gets here! The wait just makes it better!!!!:D:P;) ;)

Just for the record. I posted the info to let everyone know that these were making their way out to subscribers. I in no way intended this to be a bash about it being late, or whatever else. Just that these were getting into our hands now.

As I mentioned before, I don't care when I get it, as long as I do. If I get another one next week, fine by me. In the end as long as I get what I pay for I am a happy camper.

Great work Gregg, Harry and all others involved.

I just finished Tim Boyd's NNL story. I enjoyed it.

I'll stick my two cents in though, more foreign/exotic please! LOL

He also tends to repeat himself! ...probably a trick to add pages...

Yikes! Good luck with that, bud.

You should request they close you up with a zipper this time; at least the next one would be a little easier on you!
